When people take the trouble to send you lovely cards I am always reluctant to take them down. How long do you leave yours up for?

I'm sorry if some think this is trivial but I thought it was worth an enquiry - there have been far more tiavial questions written here and no-one has complained. I'm finding that the rudeness on 'answers' is almost becoming a form of bullying and not very pleasant.

I keep them for a week if! Friend of mine makes her own birthday cards and they're all too gorgeous to simply discard them. Thankfully she doesn't write Happy Birthday on the front so i keep and frame them and gang them ... in the toilet LOL Most people comment on how beautiful they are and my friend calls it the loo exhibition! She's quite shuffed about it because let's face it! Toilets always get used LOL

I don't believe there is a time limit on sentiment. I'd say about a month. But I'm sure most of the people answering the question feel cards are only money holders and hold no other sentimental value whatsoever. I think it's quite callus when people open their cards and throw them in a pile once the 'party' is over - you know they're headed for the trash once everyone leaves. Cards cost a rediculous amount of money these days. Up to $5 for a standard card and usually $2.95 minimum for a nice card.
However, I'm a very sentimental person so I enjoy the kind thoughts and words that cards bring. I usually leave up my favorites for a while until I (ME) I I I I am done looking at them. (please note emphasis on I) When I am done feeling the warmth of the cards I put them in a shoe box or the like and keep them a while longer just in case I want to look again. Some birthday cards are kept forever, others wear off and are eventually thrown away.
So my answer is YOU keep them up for as long as they make YOU feel good to see them. Don't worry about anyone else - it was YOUR birthday.

I have always celebrated in house members birthdays including my own by leaving the cards around for the remainder of the month. I used a special area in the front of the house with a flower arrangement. And the balloons went to the birthday person's room until they deflated. Birthdays are special and deserve more than a day from twelve months. I say they are a month long celebration.

I think your question is a good one - I used to leave my cards up one day - until I met someone and discovered they leave them up for about a week, I now do the same.
Birthdays is a celebration and the cards are sent as a remembrance and love and its important to remember that, just because you were born on a specific day doesn't mean you should stop celebrating the day after.
.............put that bottle away, its not an excuse to keep drinking!

I think about a week is enough - thats what I do anyway, any less and you sort of feel like your not appreciating them and any more it gets depressing and just drags things out.
I usually keep significant cards in a shoe box under my bed, to be looked at or read at a later date. If you dont like throwing them away, perhaps something like this would help.

There is no limit. Leave them as long as you want to. When I decide to take them down I date the back of them and put them in a special box. I'm sentimental and enjoy looking at cards and such many years after I receive them. I save my Christmas cards too. Many of them are suitable for framing and would make great decorations.

I think 1-2 weeks should be enough, but I think the nicest gesture is to save the card, If it's not just a generic card and whoever gave it to you put a lot of effort into making or writing in the card. You can save it and bring it out decades later to show it to your friend.
That'd be so cool.

I'm sentimental and keep them on display for at least three weeks. If one speaks very sincerely I might pin it up at my desk in the lab for a while too. Beyond just being polite by keeping them around, sometimes they can be reminders of the positive things in our lives ;)

1 week, the memory is still there, they become a hassle and people think you can't get over the age you turned, so they might think you are depressed and would have liked to stay at that age, 1 week is enough to be respectful and have a laugh once in a while when you walk past it.
