The term "coronary" refers to the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart muscles, ie. the coronary arteries. Coronary heart disease (CHD), also known as coronary artery disease, is a condition in which there is insufficient blood flow through one or more coronary arteries to the heart muscles. The lack of blood supply is commonly due to the gradual narrowing of the coronary arteries through a process known as atherosclerosis. CHD may present as a heart attack when there is severe narrowing of one or more coronary arteries.
