Hmm...

Firstly, have you checked in with your doctor to make sure there's not a real medical reason for it?

If not, there are many things you can do. For one, spread your food intake out more, taking in smaller meals with less time in between them, and perhaps have your last meal later. 4:30 is a very early one. This should help somewhat. Incorporate some carbs, breads especially into your meals. This should also help.

Um...perhaps something you need to do also is trim down to a healthier weight for your size? I'm not one to be super concerned about numbers, generally, but it seems like that might be pushing it a little too much for your height. It doesn't sound like your diet is all that poor, so I would suggest some nice aerobic exercise to balance you out.

If all of that doesn't work, you might consider medication of some sort, be it over the counter or prescription. If you get to that point, discuss it with your doctor to determine what would be best for YOU.

Without wishing to offend. For your height, you would possibly be better with 3 stone off.
If you are carrying the weight on your top half, then the diaphragm is getting a bit crowded for adequate digestion to take place.
You state that you eat a lot of veggies etc. you would possibly be better to eat less, than more.
Also you didn't say whether you are a coffee drinker, as this can play havoc with heartburn.
Home made soup, if you have too many veggies, can give you heartburn or flatulence, so don't overdue the vegan thing, or you will revert back to the old methods that you possibly don't want.

Your meals appear to be far too early, especially as your evening meal for the day is 4-30pm.That would make it 15 hours without food.If you are not having a beverage in that 15 hours, you could be doing more harm than good, and dehydrating
Give the banana a miss for a while and make up some fruit salad for a bit of variety.
You need water, as this helps with heartburn, and your new way of eating.
Good Luck .

My dear one.

You turning into a Vegan has nothing to do with your heartburn.

I suspect that you have either a Hernia and the result will be that you have a reflux and tremendous heartburn. What can also be a problem is that you could have some ulcers.

Listen to what I say for I have just had a Nissen Hernia repair and previously was on Losec for about 2 years. Now I can't remember what heartburn is. Go the your doctor and have a laboroscopy so that they can see whether you in fact have a hernia.

Stay away from:

Fatty foods
Bread
Curries
bananas
Eat Yogurt
Steamed veggies
Brown rice
Nuts and raisins
Make chicken soup with veggies
If you want to eat bread eat rae bread (I am not sure about the spelling for this bread)

Take care, I will be thinking of you and praying for you

Chances are you are eating a lot of high acid foods like oranges, tomatos, onions, garlic, ect. You should limit yourself to only one or two of these a day and spread them out throughout the day. Also, make sure you are eating something absorbant in the morning such as vegan toast or an english muffin. This will absorb the stomach acid you body developes ovenight and reduce the heartburn. If it still persists for more than three days consult with a doctor who supports your choice so that you can find a solution that works for you.

Also, if you smoke, drink coffee, don't exercise, or skip breakfast frequently you may want to adjust your lifestyle choices as these can all contribute to heartburn.

Being overweight can cause heartburn or reflux (I could stand to lose 20 pounds myself), as can stress. I've discovered that chewing gum once a day helps, believe it or not (someone else mentioned it on another question, and I noticed that it helps me). There's a vegan gum called B-Fresh, which is available at www.veganstore.com and www.veganessentials.com.

Eating smaller meals is the best, as your stomach doesn't get overfilled. And make sure you sit upright for 45 minutes to an hour after a meal.

I agree whole heartedly.

two meals a day and no snacks has been the thing that works the best for me.

I dont know how anyone can eat three meals a day and even then of my two meals a day i prefer one to have no starchy content.

i would also suggest drinking peppermint tea after meals untill the problem subsides. its very good for aiding digestion.

You could also try adding more alkaline vegetables to each meal to try and keep the acid/alkalnine content more balanced.

Putting whatever im eating on top of a bit of mixed greens seems to work pretty well, avacaodo is nice too.

Eating cooked foods causes an increase chance for heart burn. Try eating raw veggies for now. I would also cut back on fruit in-take first thing in the morning or before bed. Your weight could also be a problem. Eating raw veggies should really take the weight off. A raw food diet is super healthy. Check it out on the web! I lost eight pounds in the first two weeks alone.

Don't worry ... pretty soon that heartburn will change into the more acceptable behavior among vegans of farting up a storm.

Just a guess but I think this must have been a rather sudden change for you? If so your digestive track needs time to change after 24 years of eating a diet that was VERY different.

stop being a vegan. it isnt very good for you. its only possible due to the abundance of our society. In real life you eat what is available in moderation. Also, being vegan does not mean stuff yourself with carbs. This will raise your triglycerides and make you even less healthy. Eat 40% protien 40% carbs and 20% fat. Excercise is also good.
