So, I have lived in Chicago my whole life and I have had biscuits w/ sausage gravy many times...but I would say the one thing I would miss the most is real Chicago Pizza...Like Lou Malnati's. When I lived in Cali, they may have great produce and fab seafood, but they can't make a pizza. I love Southern food too though...I am not a picky eater at all!

Mostly what is significant to our area is BBQ chicken, steak, anything of that sorts :-) Sidenote: It has been quite a while ago, but I went back east when I was 18 years old & I have always lived in the west. It was the first time I was introduced to sauerkraut. It wasn't something that we had ever put on our hot dogs or something that I had ever heard of. I did try it & I liked it! :-)

I'm from Texas and love three styles native to this area.

Cajun-boudain, crawfish, gumbo, etoufee, red beans and rice, andouille sausage, tasso, shrimp and fish.

Texmex- enchiladas, fajitas, caldo, barbacoa, pico de gallo with anything, pollo ala parrilla, carne guisada, guacamole, flan, sopapillas, camarones and pesce.

Texas- Thick porterhouse steaks, smoked brisket, smoked chicken, smoked sausage, dry rub smoked ribs, venision, chili without beans, Texas toast, shrimp, fish, blue crab and oysters.

And I can enjoy a good chinese buffet, greek food, Tandoori cooking and middle eastern food. Thai and Vietnamese food and noodles are great as are spring rolls.

Bluegill fillets -- Illinois (terrible fishing state)
Sweet corn -- blond and it tastes almost sugared it's so sweet
tomatoes -- no one eats hot house tomatoes in the fall

Alas, no particular recipes! There is Chicago style pizza and a reverence for bratwursts and knackwurst but recipes, not so much

I'm from Cincinnati, and we love our Cincinnati style chili here. It's different from regular chili, you can eat it plain, put it on a hot dog or use it for spaghetti sauce.

I also grew up in the country, and can't get enough of Southern cooking!

well here in Kentucky it's pretty much the same as you. I know one thing that we eat here that you can't get when I visit my sister and her family in Chicago, and that's biscuits and sausage gravy, like for breakfast. They don't have that up North at all. Yet there are things there that I can't get here too, like everytime I go up there I have to get a Gyro, or an Italian Beef sandwich, because they don't have those in Kentucky.

I live in San Diego.

My favorite food types are:

Japanese (Sushi)
Italian
and Mexican

Not in any particular order.

If you balk at any of the above types of food, it's because you haven't really had it prepared right. I know where to get fine food in my neck of the woods.
