No. Vegetarians don't eat meat. You can eat products that come from animals like eggs and milk but you can't eat the animal itself.

You can, but you won't be a vegetarian. Vegetarians are either ovo-lacto (which includes eggs and dairy), lacto (which includes dairy), or vegan (which does not allow any animal product at all). This usually means not wearing any either. If you include animal flesh you will not be a vegetarian, no matter what the "pescetarians" will tell you.

The word “pescatarian” is occasionally used to describe those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. Although the word is not commonly used, more and more people are adopting this kind of diet, usually for health reasons or as a stepping stone to a fully vegetarian diet.

Vegetarian (Lacto-ovo-vegetarian)
When most people think of vegetarians, they think of lacto-ovo-vegetarians. People who do not eat beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish or animal flesh of any kind, but do eat eggs and dairy products are lacto-ovo vegetarians (“lacto” comes from the Latin for milk, and “ovo” for egg).

Lacto-vegetarian is used to describe a vegetarian who does not eat eggs, but does eat dairy products.

Ovo-vegetarian refers to people who do not eat meat or dairy products but do eat eggs.

Pesco-vegetarianism is recognized in various cultures around the world. The healthiest diet in the world is that of the Okinawans and they ae Pesco-vegetarians primarily.

You will find you have absolute fools on the V&V forum whose entire world view is limited because they have their heads where it is dark and warm.

"Litty" above me has laid it out the correct format that again is recognized as "legitimate" by the world vegetarian community.

If you eat it you won't be a vegetarian. It seems like a lot of people want the label vegetarian even thought they want to eat meat. You are a PISCIVORE.

So here is your handy glossary . . .

VEGETARIAN (Lacto-ovo- vegetarian)
When most people think of vegetarians, they think of lacto-ovo-vegetarians. People who do not eat beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish or animal flesh of any kind, but do eat eggs and dairy products are lacto-ovo vegetarians (“lacto” comes from the Latin for milk, and “ovo” for egg).
Lacto-vegetarian is used to describe a vegetarian who does not eat eggs, but does eat dairy products.
Ovo-vegetarian refers to people who do not eat meat or dairy products but do eat eggs.

VEGAN
Vegans do not eat meat of any kind and also do not eat eggs, dairy products, or processed foods containing these or other animal-derived ingredients such as gelatin. There is some debate as to whether certain foods, such as honey, fit into a vegan diet.

FRUITARIANS –
They eat only fruits, nuts and seeds.(This includes the fruit of vegetables such as tomatoes and courgettes. However they never eat the roots of plants such as carrots and potatoes)

PISCIVORE –
The word piscivore is used to describe those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. Although the word is not commonly used, more and more people are adopting this kind of diet, usually for health reasons or as a stepping stone to a fully vegetarian diet. Pescatarian is occasionally used but is incorrect.

POULTRYIVORE –

POULTRYPHOBIC-

FLEXITARIAN/ SEMI-VEGETARIAN/ DEMIVEGETARIAN
You don’t have to be vegetarian to love vegetarian food! “Flexitarian” is a term recently coined to describe those who eat a mostly vegetarian diet, but occasionally eat meat.

RAW VEGAN/RAW FOOD DIET
A raw vegan diet consists of unprocessed vegan foods that have not been heated above 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius). “Raw foodists” believe that foods cooked above this temperature have lost a significant amount of their nutritional value and are harmful to the body.

MACROBIOTIC
The macrobiotic diet, revered by some for its healthy and healing qualities, includes unprocessed vegan foods, such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and allows the occasional consumption of fish. Sugar and refined oils are avoided. Perhaps the most unique qualifier of the macrobiotic diet is its emphasis on the consumption of Asian vegetables, such as daikon, and sea vegetables, such as seaweed.

OMNIVORE –
Eats both animal and plant matter. A slang derogatory term for FLEXITARIAN.

CARNIVORE
Only eats meat.

LANDIVORE

Someone who thinks vegetarians eat meat.

Someone who thinks that fish or chicken is a plant. Or that an eggplant is an animal.

Types of Vegetarians

One thing that many people don't realize or understand is that there are different types of vegetarians. Each individual vegetarian has his or her own personal reasons for choosing their diet, and these reasons determine exactly what foods they eliminate.

Total Vegetarians eat only plant food. They do not eat any animal foods, including fish, eggs, dairy products, and honey.

Vegans not only omit all animal products from their diets, but they also eliminate them from the rest of their life. Vegans use nothing from animals, such as leather, wool, and silk.

Lacto-Vegetarians will include dairy products into their diet of plant food.

Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarians eat both eggs and dairy products.

Pesco-Vegetarians include fish into their diets.

Pollo-Vegetarians eat poultry, such as chicken, turkey, and duck.
