Yes, I think the guy meant Halal; the Islam equivalent of kosher.
I know a little bit of Arabic and I'm pretty sure "Halal" would be the correct spelling, "hala" was probably an error.
Words ending in "al" usually refer to "quality" or "concept" nouns; like Beauty is Jamal, Perfection is Kamal, etc. But then again, "hala" might be a different "tense" of the word--because my Arabic isn't very good. I never heard it put that way before, though. I'd go look it up in my Arabic dictionary but I'm too lazy.

I noticed lots of people gave you the definition for halal.
There is also a Jewish bread called Challah, but it is pronounced like "hala".
It's an egg bread that's braided. Great for French toast.

I don't know. Are you thinking of challah (pronounced
hah-lah), the Jewish, braided egg-bread(often covered in black sesame seeds, or are they poppy seeds?)
Halal also comes to mind, but only because of the way that you spelled it.
Oh, I just saw that other question and now I'm sure that it means halal. I have no idea if that is another correct way to spell it or if that was a typo.

another spelling for halal the muslim equivalant to jewish kosher. literally it means permissible. Kosher literally means clean.
