What is your opinion on the people who just answer questions saying "You are going to burn!"
I mean, doesn't that just give Christianity a BAD REPUTATION... Just like that preacher who was praying to bring oil prices down... Seriously.
Why do some Christians just say "you will burn in hell"? It simply infuriates others... Saying that they are damned to eternal suffering doesn't really make a positive impact.
Just think about this: does the threat of eternal pain convince people on YA to convert?

Mandi - No. I just think it is just extremely rude going around saying "YOU are going to burn, YOU are going to burn, maybe not you but YOU for sure!"
You aren't supposed to lie to them, but they already KNOW that they will burn if we're right...
It just doesn't help.

Oh, come on, it won't make them repent, nor is it "warning" them!
They're already aware of what the Bible says...
Answering a question saying "You're going to burn, scumbag" simply pisses people off...

Jesus said on the sermon on the mount, you hypocrites, don't judge your neighbors! first remove the beam from your own eye, before you cast judgment on your neighbor!

I'm a non Christian and I will tell you yes it does. I live in the bible belt & I have been told by so called "Good Christians" that I'm a bad person for my beliefs and will burn.
I find that a majority of Christians do not follow the teaching of Jesus at all. They bend them to serve their religion conviction or Church charter.
Jesus taught people love everyone no matter what. He did not teach contentment or hate of people for how they believe. He except humans for who they were and loved them regardless of their flaws.
Christians have lost track of the teaching and lets not kid ourselves religion is a billion dollar business. It's not about faith anymore it's about the one true god the all might dollar.
So the more people they can con into coming in just keeps the register ringing.
I think everyone should respect everyone for being human not what they believe.

Sorry I didn't see the question, but I think for the most part you are right, but lets face it, if people do not turn to Christ they will burn. So even though I think tact should be the rule, it still needs to be said. Jesus said it, and so should we. You can be so kind that you never get the truth across, because it might offend. Frankly I would rather be offended and know the truth.
Why are people offended by it anyway? If they don't believe it,why would it offend them? If they do believe it, they shouold do something about it.

why not say
you will not be invited to the champagne supper
you will have to go to the bbq instead
let me ask you a question
if i believe in god (which i do) why should i rigorously conform to a book
does god not value my personal commitment without having to follow other mortals interpretations
which book ergo religion is correct as all the different books have similar themes but different rules
the real reason christianity has a bad reputation (and in fact most religions) is because they want to compartmentalise people into there own beliefs and are not tolerant of alternative viewpoints
i was under the assumption that to err is human but to forgive is divine and that lest he cast the first stone he who has not sinned
you cannot have it both ways
tolerance, humility, forgivness and caring is the real message of most religious books but that message has long ago been corrupted
god bless

The Bible does say that if we don't warn sinners then their blood will be on our hands. In other words, if you don't tell people that they'll burn, then YOU'LL burn .
At least that's how some Christians interpret it
Sending you a smile to help pick up your day.

Threatening people with Hell, especially unbelievers, is really counterproductive to the Gospel. It is also REALLY TACKY. The only time I notice Jesus doing this in the Gospel record (and He DID make that point) was in dealing with hardened, hypocritical religious people. In other words, it was used with BELIEVERS, who had fallen into sin, and were hardened in that sin.
This would indicate that warnings of eternal condemnation are NOT to be used (at least not often) on unbelievers as a "witnessing" tool, but rather as church discipline on believers!
I wonder how many worlds THAT would rock?

The Christians that state 'you are going to hell' etc, do not do Christianity any favours. Also, by telling them that they are going to hell, is to pass judgment, and only God can truly judge another person. But to answer your original question, yes, I can't see winning converts by starting off with "you're gonna burn in hell...."

It might cause someone to repent, but the chances are slim.
1Cor:4:21: ... shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of meekness?
Gal:6:1: ...if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness...
2Tm:2:25: In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
Ti:3:2: 2 to speak evil of no one, not being quarrelsome, but forbearing, showing all meekness to all men.
Jms:3:13: Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
Rom:2:4: Or do you despise the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

A lot depends on How it is said.If the statement is" you will burn in hell for...(fill in your favorite sin)" then it's incorrect, because it's not our call. If they say "Unless you believe that Christ died for your sins and accept his free gift of grace, you will burn in hell", well that statement is true, but a very poor way to make the point of Christ's love. We should try to avoid make those kinds of judgments because they aren't ours to make

the question is, are the people saying that attempting to convert the asker of the question, or are they simply trying to make the point that what is going on is abominable. I agree that this tactic is not appropriate and not even God honoring in the least... but don't assume they are attempting to make converts

The "burn' business doesn't shine any light toward one you might want to wake up. It also indicates a shallow perception of Christianity, since God is infinite.
Even so, we must remember that Christ can't be stopped by those who pretend to know Him.
