I love salt! Potatoe chips, bacon, chicken noodle soup, cheez, shrimp... If someone told me I would never eat sweet again I would be fine, but take any of those away and I would cry. I even eat salt crystals like candy sometimes! I drink a ton of water, a few liters a day, I eat organic, no MSG or nitrates and nitrites, I have slightly elevated BP 125/75, I had a heart scan, the one where they take pictures from every side and it was fine. I know this has got to be bad for me, but I have no idea how to stop. HELP!

Believe it or not salt is an acquired taste. You would have to taper it off but eventually you would never miss it.
It's the reason baby food is so bland and salt-less, they don't know what they are missing. So if you never gave them anything with sodium or salt they wouldn't know the difference.
So just try to limit your sodium intake to 1500 mg a day which is recommended. You will be less bloated and feel much better.

This is probably because you feel like you need the salt. It's the same with sweets. People can seriously get addicted and feel bad when they don't have it. You need to learn some self control. Stop with the salt, now you're fine and healthy, but sooner or later, this will have some negative effect on you. Also, too much salt causes cellulite.

it sounds like you're just addicted to salt, just like people can be addicted to sugar. what you can do is to gradually wean yourself off of the salt, try to cut down. If you eat too much of it , it can elevate your BP, or lead to hypertension. I talked to a nurse one time that said his BP was just boardline high, and what he did is just cut out a lot of salt from his diet and he's been fine ever since.

It wouldn't hurt to check your blood count if it hasn't been done already. People who are anemic can get strange cravings.
