I'm doing an assignment for the child care course I'm doing.

This assignment is on making a menu for a child with specific cultural requirements,in relation to food.

All the little Chinese and Indian kids at work eat regular Aussie food, and we don't have kids from other cultures, so I don't know what cultures have specific dietary requirements.

My question is do you know any cultures that have specific dietary requirements?

and

What sort of foods would you feed toddlers from this particular culture?

Many jews keep kosher.

Muslims have dietary restrictions, too. I know they can eat anything that's kosher; I don't know if they can eat some other foods too or not.

Seventh-day adventists have a restrictive diet.

Some other religions have prohibitions on alcohol - for instance, Methodists aren't suppose to imbibe - and on caffeinated beverages. The alcohol prohibition probably isn't of concern to you, but the caffeine might be.

Many Sikhs refuse eggs and meat. Many Hindus practice vegetarianism. Hindus do not eat beef, either. Mormons do not take alcohol or caffeine. Many 7th day adventists practice ovo-lacto vegetarianism.

Jewish people follow kosher restrictions - no shellfish, special ways of butchering meat, carefully inspecting fruits and veg for bugs, meat can't be eaten with dairy, etc - rules sometimes vary.

Muslims eat halal, which means permissible. Foods that are forbidden, or haram, are pork and porcine products, blood, alcohol, carnivorous animals, and all animals must be killed in the name of God. There's some dispute over sea creatures.

So, if I were feeding a toddler from any of these cultures, I'd probably stick to lacto-veggie foods - juice, sandwiches with hummus and veg, fruit, and milk.

I don't necessarily know of any cultures that have specific dietary requirements, but neither Jews nor Muslims eat pork products (any pig meat) or shellfish. Jews, in addition, do not mix meat and dairy foods.

Many Indians are lacto-vegetarians. Most Asians are lactose intolerant, although I understand more and more are adopting more "Western" diets.

my son had terrible diarrhea a couple of times also. Pedialite would actually upset his stomach more for some reason, and my doctor said that Gatorade would work just as well. Gatorade worked wonders. Apple sauce, bananas, and crackers, seemed to work well for him too. He would also take yogurt to help him rebuild his good intestinal bacteria. The main thing to watch for is dehydration. Good luck!
