I had blood work done a few weeks ago, and last week my doctor called to tell me that my cholesterol was a little high. It wasn't high enough to warrant medication, but it was high enough that it warranted discussion about ways to get it back down to a healthy level.
The two days prior to having my blood drawn I had been eating a lot of egg salad. I'm talking 2 out of 3 meals were egg salad sandwiches. I was wondering if this would have caused my results to be a little higher than usual.
I had meant to ask my doctor while I was in his office, but was more concerned with getting information about how to lower my cholesterol and forgot.

My doctor isn't going to start pushing meds. He prefers to try and do things naturally if there is no immediate threat to his patients health. We discussed natural ways to lower my cholesterol (increasing daily cardio, staying away from fried/sugary foods, eating more fruits and veggies..)

Also, I'm not asking if eggs are okay to eat - I am asking if eating a large quantity of eggs within the seven days prior to having my cholesterol tested could cause my results to be slightly elevated.

I went to the doctor several months ago and was told mine was high and that I needed to quit eating what I was...this doc WAS suggesting meds for me. I got a second opinion and mine is well within normal...115. What is yours because I fear that the doctor may be preparing you for medication...some docs push meds too much! Just get a second opinion before you go on any meds! About the eggs...I think it could have raised it some especially right before your test...

Eggs are fine. They contain cholesterol but they also contain lecithin which counteracts the cholesterol.

Try plant sterols. They are chemically similar to cholesterol and when taken with a meal they reduce the amount of cholesterol that your body absorbs. Your body can only absorb a certain amount of cholesterol at a time. Plant sterols have been proven effective in clinical studies and the FDA even allows the drug claim that they lower cholesterol. It is unusual for a supplement to be able to make a drug claim like that. I would try ENP's plant sterols.

I have a problem with cholesterol and my Dr. who is a chol. specialist says that I can have an egg three times a week. Egg whites are healthy for you. Just remove the yolk when you make your egg salad. Also you should use a mayo substitute that is low fat.
Eating the salad did not affect your test if you were fasting beforehand.

50% of people who have heart attacks don't have elevated cholesterol, so its effects are somewhat exaggerated.
Egg salad twice a day is a little much though. You might substitute low fat ham or roast beef for one of those sandwiches - and use whole grain bread because fiber helps the body eliminate cholesterol.
