If she doesn't seem to be in distress, it's probably a 'new thing' that she's trying.

But if it worries you- and mother's instincts are usually good- take her to her pediatrician and see what he has to say.

Good luck!

Get her into a doctor ASAP. She needs to see a specialist on breathing problems. There could be several reasons for this and if not corrected could cause more problems.

Here are the causes I know about from my own experience:
1. If she is not getting enough oxigen when she is sleeping, the next day she will do what I call double breaths, some call it gasping. This can NOT be done by accident or by forcing such as a habit.
2. When sleeping if laying flat, her thing that looks like a toung in the throat area may be colapsing and blocking her ability to get enough air into her lungs, so when she is up and about she will do the loud inhales or gasps, etc. to catch up.

Take your child to her doctor TODAY! It is nothing to take lightly..It could be a number of things but I really doubt it's a new habit. Don't wait until maybe she just stops breathing in her sleep or right in front of your eyes..Give your doctor all the necessary info to help him diagnose. He should even check out heart as well as lungs. Blood work, and x-rays should be done as well. Make sure a complete physical is done and not just a "take a guess" type visit.. Please do it right away. Don't put this off.. If you can't get the doctor, then go to an ER at a hospital.. I feel this could be a very serious problem that needs medical attention now! Good Luck and hope she'll be ok..

If she only does this when she is excited or angry, I'm pretty sure that it might be asthma, another sign you can look for is when she is sleeping, check to see if she is making a snooring sound or not getting a good nights sleep.I dont know all the signs of asthma but my nephew has it and when he gets ready to play his sports he usually ends up taking his inhaler. You could take her to the doctor just incase. It will ease your mind and stop your worries. You can also go to www.WebMD.com and click on ( check your symptoms)

Look into the Buteyko breathing technique. I am an asthmatic and with the Buteyko method I am totally off all medications and keep my asthma under control with the breathing exercises.

That being said, take her to the doctor first. Breathing problems are nothing to take lightly.
