Well, my motivating factors are my family. My mother has a lot of health problems - many which stem from lack of exercise and not eating right. I know it sounds cruel, but I look at her and remind myself that I do NOT want to be like that at her age. That's my biggest motivator.
Other things that have helped me:
1- I joined the gym. When you pay for a membership, you are more likely to go - at least that's what the "studies" show. They're right. I feel like a total scab when I don't go - like I'm throwing my money away. I go and get my money's worth. :-)
2- I posted an old picture of myself on the fridge. Every time I went to grab something to eat, I had to face my former, younger, more trim self. That visual kept me dedicated.
3 - Tyring on a 'skinny' outfit also helped me. I have a cute dress that I didn't fit anymore. As I worked on my body, I'd try the dress on about every other week. I was able to see the progress and that helped motivate me a lot. Now I can fit into it!

That´s the big problem :)

i cannot really motivate myself over a long time...
that may be because i only have some kg too much.

but what really help is to be aware, that you have to loose it.
look for a goal.. like a upcoming holiday or something what you could buy yourself when you succeed in loosing the amound of weight in a time you set before.

therefore it is a rather a question of getting to know, that you have to loose weight.

when you are aware of it

- try to avoid any kind of fast food. cook fresh or prepare mostly everything yourself. there is nothing more calories then in fast food.
- eat more fruit and vegetable
- drink a lot of water
- eat regulary and do not miss breakfast or dinner or so on.

do sports... it´s easier to do it together with other people. maybe aerobics or jogging in a group or with friends..
***********
o.. sorry- a lot of off-topics...

it really motivates, when you know that you can achieve your goal. its the other side round when you have a target you can not get to..
small steps..

have fun..
and if you are really hungry maybe for chocolate... eat a small piece...
you are happier than..

good luck.

in my opinion its nonsense to put a sticker of a really slim girl on the fridge.. its rather more disappointing... .)
but that might be different with you
try it out

My boyfriend recently left for Air Force Basic Training. He will be gone for six and a half weeks, giving me time to give myself a makeover. I motivate myself by putting pictures of us all over my refrigerator and throughout my house. Seeing these pictures of us shows me how much weight I've gained recently and helps motivate me to lose the weight. I really want to lose 20 pounds before his graduation ceremony (down 5 already!) as a gift to myself, but also as a surprise for him. Every time I get tired while on the elliptical, I just imagine him showing me off to all his new Air Force buddies... who wouldn't be motivated by that?!?!

pick up a 5 or 10 pound weight at the gym and visualize that weight coming off holding the weight in your hands helps bring home just how heavy even 5 pounds of extra fat can be
