Genital warts usually appear as soft, moist, pink, or flesh-colored swellings, usually in the genital area. They can be raised or flat, single or multiple, small or large, and sometimes cauliflower shaped. They can appear on the vulva, in or around the vagina or anus, on the cervix, and on the penis, scrotum, groin, or thigh. After sexual contact with an infected person, warts may appear within weeks or months, or not at all.
If you are concerned you have genital warts you should see your doctor and have them look at you. They can provide/offer treatment. Good luck!

This is no doubt a serious blow to your self perception but it's not so bad and your not alone. The first advice is that you should go see your doctor. It may feel awkward but your health is more important than your ego. As stated in the other answers the cause of warts is indeed the HPV virus which exists in several forms all of which can cause genital warts, planter warts, and warts on other parts of your body. Millions of people have HPV and don't and will never know they have it. Symptoms are not always so apparent. You can treat the warts and be done with them forever in most cases. I had them at 23 and never saw them again at my current age of 42. If you are healthy and have an intact immune system it will keep the virus under control. For example: chicken pox is very common and once you get it you have it for life. The bumps you get are from the contraction of the virus but soon go away. The virus which is a type of herpes virus lives in nerve cells and is kept under control by a healthy immune system. That virus can cause a flare up called shingles which is contagious and can transmit chicken pox to non-infected people. You are not alone and will live a normal life. It is also important for females to get paps meres if infected by HPV because it increases the chance of cervical cancer. Stay strong and live your dreams because your life is just beginning ans is no way shape or form over.

Genital warts**
The signs and symptoms of genital warts include:
Small, flesh-colored or gray swellings in your genital area
Several warts close together that take on a cauliflower shape
Itching or discomfort in your genital area
Bleeding with intercourse
Often, however, genital warts cause no symptoms. Or they may be so small and flat that they can't be seen with the naked eye.
Causes
Like warts that appear on other areas of your skin, genital warts are caused by a virus - HPV - that infects the top layers of your skin. There are more than 100 different types of HPV, but only a few can cause genital warts. These strains of the virus are highly contagious and spread through sexual contact with an infected person. About two-thirds of people who have sexual contact with someone who has genital warts develop the condition - usually within three months of contact, but in some cases not for years.
Risk factors
Having unprotected sex with multiple partners increases your risk of becoming infected with HPV. Other risk factors include:
Having had another sexually transmitted disease
Having sex with a partner whose sexual history you don't know
Becoming sexually active at a young age
Genital warts, also known as condylomata acuminata or venereal warts, are one of the most common types of sexually transmitted diseases. As the name suggests, genital warts affect the moist tissues of the genital area. They may look like small, flesh-colored bumps or have a cauliflower-like appearance. Genital warts may be as small as 1 millimeter in diameter - smaller than the width of a ballpoint pen refill - or may multiply into large clusters.
In women, genital warts can grow on the vulva, the walls of the vagina, the area between the external genitals and the anus, and the cervix. In men, they may occur on the tip or shaft of the penis, the scrotum or the anus. Genital warts can also develop in the mouth or throat of a person who has had oral sexual contact with an infected person.
Although genital warts can be treated with medications and surgery, they are a serious health concern. The virus that causes them - the human papillomavirus (HPV) - has been associated with cervical cancer. It has also been linked with other types of genital cancers, such as cancer of the penis.
Hope this answers your question!
