I have had genital herpes for almost 7 years. The first few years were the worst. I had about 4 or 5 outbreaks within the first 2 years. I also got into a relationship which ended up lasting nearly 4 years. My boyfriend (ex now) never contracted the virus from me though during those 4 years.
Since then I've had about 1 outbreak. I've been outbreak free for over 2 years now. Right now I'm in an almost 2 year relationship with my fiance and even though I had been outbreak free for months before I met him, he still ended up contracting the virus from me within months of having sex together. He has had the virus for about a year and 1/2.
I don't know if the virus ever gets less contagious or not (I kind of doubt it though from my experience).
Take care!

You are most contagious in your first year of contracting the virus, but after that it doesn't really make a difference. However, I have just taken part in a recently completed shedding study conducted by the Westover Heights Clinic for people who have had HSV2 for longer than 10 years.
The study was to determine if we shed less after a period of time.
The results are not out yet. When they are, they will be published. I will also post them on http://www.racoon.com/herpes (These guys know their stuff)!!
http://www.club462.com (An amazing online dating, support and friendship site with great info on STD's and safer sex)
Also, something very important to remember is that the number of outbreaks you have, the severity of them, or if you are completely asymptomatic, has no bearing on how much you shed. (20% of people with genital Herpes have absolutely NO syptoms but still shed the virus).
Abstaining from sex during an outbreak, using a condom and being on a DAILY antiviral for supression such as Acyclovir or Valtrex, reduced the chance of transmission to 1 or 2% (depending on your gender). There are also antiviral gels available holistically (which can double as a lube)!!
Also, it has been shown that if you do transmit this but are on daily valtrex, that your partner is far less likely to have severe symptoms (if any at all).
For shedding rates associated with both HSV1 and HSV2, you should read he westover heights handbook online. Its free and published by Terri Warren who owns the clinic.

I got clinically diagnosed with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about six years ago, when I was still attending college and had a stupid one-night stand. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone that has sores around her you-know-what? But since a friend shared this video everything changed https://tr.im/cureHerpes2015RNE0
Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the hsv from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to begin dating once more. I even met the man of my dreams. This method provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love. Now I want to enable you too by sharing this with the whole World.

in high school there are more people, more teachers and more activity... depending on the type of person you are this can be a good thing or a bad thing. the curriculum is a bit harder than middle school but it depends on you study habits and what college you want to go to. High school is more than just dances and clubs and friends. you really do have to think about making the grade and building a great transcript. your high school transcript follows you for a long time so from experience, do have fun, but not too much fun. Enjoy your youth! It goes by fast! Also, high school means drama. No doubt. But you're probably way too mature to get caught up in it right? Lastly, be involved! Get in there and show school spirit and be as involved in school as you can!

You will always be contagious, no matter how long you've had it and no matter if you are experiencing an outbreak or not. This means that you have a moral obligation to disclose to all prospective partners.
There is however, evidence that people who've had it the longest, experience fewer outbreaks.
