Genital Warts are skin growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). The disorder is reported more often by men than by women, probably because warts are more visible on the penis. An infected person can transmit the virus to sexual partners even if he/she has no symptoms.
The warts appear from a few weeks to as long as 20 months after infection. They are usually soft with a rough surface and are painless. A few may have a hard surface. Genital warts become larger rapidly, and in some instances the growths cluster together in one area. It can be anywhere between 5-100.
In men, warts may occur on the shaft of the penis, on the foreskin, on the glans, or around the anus. In women, warts may appear on the vulva (the external part of the female genitals) or develop inside the vagina, on the cervix, and around the anus.

It depends on the individual person. Some people can get warts right away, and for others it can take years. Some people with HPV will never get genital warts. It all depends on what "kind" or "strain" of HPV they have.
Genital warts can appear alone or in clusters. Again, it just depends on the person. Everyone is different.
I was personally diagnosed with HPV almost 7 years ago, but I didn't develop genital warts from it till about 5 years after I was diagnosed. It took me 5 years to develop genital warts from my HPV! It can take a while!
Take care!
