I'm bidding on some rare Mork & Mindy Dixie Cups on ebay, and I'd like to know if there is anything I could coat them with or dip them in to make them last forever. I want to use them, and then surprise my guests at dinner parties by serving fancy drinks in them years later. Any ideas?

You might try using a spray sealant. It's found at craft stores etc. Experiment first on something similar and see how it turns out. Either that or you could buy a cheap plastic box container like a display case and place the cup in there. Again they are found at craft stores, they cost a few dollars each.

I'm sorry, there is no way to make disposable cups to last forever, especially if you plan on using them. This is an idea you might use for serving them later. You'll have to sacrifice one. Slit it opened. Lay it flat and have a color copy made of it. Run this copy through a Xyron machine that has a cartridge that applies adhesive to one side and laminates the other side. Get cups the same size, remove the paper backing off the laminated copies of the originals, and apply to the new cups. They won't be the originals, but they will have the same graphics on them. If you don't have a Xyron machine, they can be purchased at Micheal's or A.C.Moores. They always offer 40% off coupons that can be used to purchase the machine.

Not really. Dixie cups are made to be disposable and non-durable.

You could try coating them in a food-grade resin like the guys do for leather tankards for ren faires.

i'm understanding that you're not trying to reuse the cups. you just want to save them for years so that they are useable for a future paty.

if that's correct, then you could package the cups in an airtight, waterproof container and set it in a dark, cool storage place. that way you can be sure that the cups are still clean and ready for use when your party takes place.

You probably could have them professionally coated with clear plastic.
