You may or may not lose weight. That's pretty much a math problem: eat more calories then you burn and you will gain weight, burn more calories than you eat and you will lose weight. If you cut out meat but replace it with more cheese and eggs, you will not lose weight as a vegetarian. If you subsist on junk food like french fries, you will not lose weight as a vegetarian.

I you eat a healthy, balanced, varied vegetarian diet that's based on whole foods instead of processed foods and keep your high saturated fat dairy and eggs to a minimum, you do not have to worry about protein and you may lose weight. Protein is in almost everything and even vegetarians most often get quite a bit more than is necessary.

Being vegetarian is a lifestyle, not a diet. Changing the way you eat from processed foods to more whole and natural foods can become a lifestyle, as well, and help you lose weight.

You first need to toss out all processed foods from your cupboards and your fridge/freezer. You need to replenish them with fresh fruit, fresh green leafy vegetables, and convenience foods like canned garbanzo beans, and other legumes. Bin the white breads for whole grain bread, and cut back on fats (butter, margerine, etc.).

Very important: Drink lots of water during the day, basically the equivalent of eight large glasses, or more. Don't drink diet sodas; when thirst hits you, drink water, or herbal teas.

Also important: Take a BRISK walk of half an hour before each meal. This will stimulate your metabolism, and aid your digestion.

I hope this helps . . .

People who eat meat don't walk around all day thinking "gee, I wonder if I've had enough protein today. Maybe I should grab some chicken/tuna/steak." Vegetarians don't have to either. Talk to your doctor and find out exactly how much protein you need each day and non-meat sources of it. You will be surprised at how few changes you will have to make to stay healthy.

Non meat sources of protein:
Milk, cheese, eggs (if you are a lacto-ovo, meaning a non-vegan vegetarian), bread, beans (all kinds-try edamame), etc.

As long as you eat fewer calories than you expend, you will probably lose weight. Don't eat too much junk food, eat a good variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, and nuts, and you'll be fine. Just remember that nuts are high in fat.

Really, even vegans get more protein than they need to be healthy, so it won't be a problem.

thats sort of.. not how being a vegetarian works..

you become a vegetarian so that animals dont have to suffer so much.

maybe consider being a flexitarian; eat meat OCNE in a while, but dont overdo it. its the first step to becoming vegetarian, but not all the way.

i would consider eating a healthy snack instead of chips/pop/etc (if you eat chips/.pop/etc) and eating LOTS of vegetarain foods, instead of meat.

i can totally see where your coming from.

also, excersise lots. Go for a walk 3-7 times a week, or as much as possible, and keep healthy eating habits, and youll be skinny-minny (but not anorexic) in no time flat.

if you don't replace meat with junk food you will always maintain a healthy weight. the vegetarian lifestyle is just a healthier one i believe. we usually eat fresh food as opposed to fast food. we really think about what we are putting inside our bodies.

you will! but like any diet, only if you eat correctly. french fries and potato chips dont count as a veggie diet as much as we enjoy them.
believe it or not, most things contain protein, veggies have lots more than generally thought. as well as fiber and nutrients. if you really need a fix, eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Nuts have tons of protein. Of course if youre going vegan, youll need to pay attention to the bread and jelly contents..

don't become a veg just to loose weight...make sure you are doing it for other reasons otherwise it won't last (like other diets)...you may loose weight as long as you are a healthy veg...don't just live off of meatless junk
protein: beans, tofu, boca burgers (they are super good), stuff like that!
