Trolls, just please go away.

I'm sure that in 1944, when the term vegan was coined, it was much easier to maintain a truly fully vegan life per definition.

It's impossible to live completely vegan in modern society, so we do the best we can and call ourselves vegan. We're still doing a hell of a lot more for the cause than our 'enviromentalist' meat-eater friends, so lay off.

It's odd, really. I think the reason meat eaters slam us is because we make them afraid. Very afraid. They know animals are treated cruelly in slaughterhouses and it makes them uncomfortable, yet they don't have the discipline to give it up. That's my opinion at least.

I am sick of being treated as an ignorant fool by trolls, so much so that I have recently avoided the section, I don't need it. But

I am also quite sick of a few other things in this section.

I am not a vegan, but am as close to it as some of the people who claim to be vegan. And these who claim to be vegan or try to be as much "as possible" are often the first to yell at "vegetarians" who still eat meat in front of their parents, or have fish once every month because they find it that difficult to give it up.

Again you are trying to change a definition, I am a vegetarian who does everything you try to do, but I cannot successfully follow the tenets of veganism, although I would love to be able to.

If you insist that others live up to the standards of a title, then you should also, especially if you believe you deserve more respect because of it.

I am also sick of all the thumbs down given to a solid argument simply because they disagree with your own viewpoint.

In a competitive society do we need another form of stratification, leave it out of vegetarianism.

being treated like a fool by a fool......that takes some of the fun out of being a vegan. But tommorow, the fun resumes. :)

I'm also tired of stuuuuped comments: "I am a meat eater, and damn proud" ....makes on sense.

"expensive prices of vegan food"

Bananas - .40 lb
Carrots - .70 lb
meat - $1,$2...I don't even know...LOL
Watermelon - .20-.50 lb
avoiding the U.S health care mess - priceless

I'm tired of "debating" with asses and morons. It's a joke, and it's on us. There's better things to do.

I do get sick of people who slam us for every tiny slip or imperfection in our lifestyle when they are so living in a glass house. Okay, so I cannot totally avoid harming living beings, as I may accidentally ingest creatures, and the tires of the bus I ride may have animal ingredients, blah, blah, blah. But I can avoid eating meat, eggs, and dairy. And I can avoid wearing fabrics that harm animals. And I can avoid going to zoos and circuses. And I can avoid products that are tested on animals (unless I have to take medication). And I can avoid animal ingredients in my cosmetics and cleansers.

No, I'm not perfect, but I do a lot more than most of the anti-vegan critics who come here slamming us. But hey, people are going to be jerks no matter what to cover up their own guilt.

I agree - live and let live. No one is going to change any opinions here being preachy. People have to want to change to make any changes for themselves. You are right to say that we do the best we can with what we've got - vegans and vegetarians are conciously making environmentally friendlier, animal friendlier, and healthier choices within their means. That surely counts for something.

I'm a vegetarian but I don't visit the Vegetarian&Vegan section so I don't know how bad the troll problem is.

The definition doesn't change over time. Changing a definition to make something more convenient for yourself is wrong. I though only religion did that.

Your quest is noble, but you want to change the meaning of "vegan" from what the person who for all intents and purposes invented the lifestyle itself to something that suits your need to called a "vegan". That's ludicrous.

And yes you are doing a wonderful job of trying. I never said anything different. You should be proud of that and I know you are. That isn't my point though.

My point is simply that the concept of veganism is being distorted so some can claim vegan as their own.

"It's impossible to live completely vegan in modern society, so we do the best we can and call ourselves vegan." I'm beginning to feel that for some it's more important to be thought of as vegan than to actually be a vegan. Like, it's a status symbol or something. I'll ask that as a question so all can answer.

My argument is quite sound and I've used no opinion, only facts, some that come from vegan-friendly sites themselves. To brand me a troll is just name calling. The section is for the discussion of V & V, not the promotion of V & V. I think some are mistaken on that point.

Amen!

They seem to think our living by moral principles as best we can and slipping up occasionally is somehow worse than having no morals or common sense in the first place!
