Assuming your asking for divine forgiveness is sincere with your heart contrite, yes but not immediately. Truly God is merciful but He is also just. Even atheists at their deathbed may be forgiven by God if they call to Him sincerely and contritely. But God who is just will not let them enter Heaven immediately but will first make them pay for the damages due to their sins already forgiven by God. Otherwise, God will not be fair to those who have suffered so much here on earth living righteously as compared to atheists who didn't sacrifice at all to lead a life acceptable to Him.

But of course, people who for a long time had lived a life apart from God will find it very hard to come to Him at their deathbed since they are immune to God's love and forgiveness. If ever they ask for divine forgiveness at their deathbed, it is a grace still coming from God's mercy. We cannot limit God's mercy to unbelievers and to non-Christians.

The thief on the Cross asked Jesus to save him and he did. He was being crucified and he said he deserved it. Must have been one bad guy. But he ask and Jesus gave. He had no time to get baptized (not needed for salvation), didn't do any good deeds (eph 2:8-9 not of works), didn't attend church, give money, say any magic words (hail mary, out father) or any "religious" rituals. He did what the bible said you have to do to get saved. Trust in Jesus Rom 10:9-10

First of all, GOD is the only judge; anyone who pretends to know the answer to these questions (who's in, who's out) is not practicing sound biblical doctrine.

But in my opinion only - the answer to your question is "It depends. What did you ask for and how did you ask it? Our salvation depends on our faith in JESUS CHRIST, the grace of our LORD, the mercy of GOD and HIS demand for justice and obedience. Only GOD can search and know your heart. To know if your deathbed conversion was really sincere or some last minute plea bargain."

I know a family who didn't believe in GOD and their son committed suicide and they decided to have a big religious funeral - hoping that would get his soul to heaven. To me -even in their grief - that is dumb. GOD is not mocked and HE won't be fooled.

Your question is loaded as the hypothetical of hypotheticals and belies an ignorance and immaturity of belief. If GOD wants you to be saved, you will be. HE will not be fooled by some last minute death-bed conversion.

if you purposely lead an evil life expecting to be able to ask for forgiveness on your death bed, God won't give you the chance on your death bed... he will take you unexpectedly so you will end up in hell... if you lead an evil life not knowing any better than sure, you can accpet Christ on your death bed...

That is the belief of many people who believe in the bible or koran. That is what makes these religions and their holy books so unbelievable to those who can think objectively and aren't brainwashed.

According to the Bible, yes. But, who wants to take a chance like that? What if you wasn't able to speak?

Only God can know if repentance is sincere and worthy of salvation and the eternal reward of living in heaven in the presence of God.
