According to this article...No. Social Security card verification should be implemented. If it will work for employers why not healthcare also?

From Article :The bill stipulates that federal money cannot be used to provide health benefits for illegal immigrants. But states could try to verify citizenship by using Social Security numbers, without inspecting documents like birth certificates and passports.

Wisconsin uses SSN's to verify eligibility for all state and federal programs. No problems with it.Why can't other states?

I agree with you.

I'd like to see much more open legal immigration, with the stipulation that all immigrants must have private health insurance for themselves and all dependents, or demonstrate that they have sufficient savings to cover any reasonable medical expenses they might incur. I don't have any objection to rules that tighten up social service restrictions on illegal immigrants. The only exception is for bona fide emergencies (bones sticking out, blood gushing out, heart attacks - that sort of thing). Hospitals should treat real emergencies as soon as possible without wasting time to check documentation.

That would be nice if States verified using Social Security Card for this health care program.

The problem is I have two friends from the same family who lived in different parts of the State. One in the valley, and the other on the coast. They each needed emergency care for different reasons, and when each were registering at different hospitals, the clerks behind the desks informed them each that they both had unpaid bills for those hospitals according to them "verified" by the Social Security Cards they provided. One was told they "owed" $3500, while the other was told $2500. And they wouldn't have known that had they not went in for emergency care or treatment.

Besides the SSA is already under pressure by the illegal rights advocates, and the attorneys who have already filed lawsuits against the employers who are or have been required to verify the SSN's according to the laws that took effect in 2005 under the REAL id. And employers have also been instructed by a court judge to halt all SSN's verification until the judge and court could "look" into it further because of the filed lawsuit that claims this tactic was effecting workers rights. And as usual, they don't mention which workers rights. The ones here legally, and have permission to be here. Or the ones who are here illegally, and do not have those worker rights.

So we seem to still be in and have a conundrum of a situation as far as I can see.

And in going through other questions since I been on, I came across one by Dar where the solution would be to also have our pictures on the SSN Cards, and data bank that verifies the photos on the SSN Cards. That would also be something the hospitals and clinics and such would need to also verify. For both employers, and the health care industries.

Edit - Dar, the money doesn't have to come out of Social Security if our Reps can break the Anti-Trust Agreements with the Pharmaceutical Companies. Those Companies in the first place could be saving millions of dollars by having and letting the physicians prescribe what pills their Patience's should be taking. Not the Pharmaceutical Companies with their advertisements all over the TV and Radio stations. Use that money saved for finding cures instead. If those Anti-Trust Agreements could be broken, Our Reps would be able to implement a Universal Heath Care System with the 40 to 60 million (billion) dollars saved annually. As long as the Anti-Trust Agreements exist, then the Pharmaceutical Companies have the control and FIX prices all the time. We need to take the control out of their hands, and back into ours. Is there a way to get a hold of you to discuss further?

It is a 'conclusive presumption' and doesn't say the ss # is theirs. If it also required picture ID in the ss# database to show it is not only a valid number but THIS person's valid number (as I believe AZ is putting in its database) I'd be ok with it. As a general matter though, I think this money will all come out of social security (there is a reason it is a social security bill). It supposedly will come from taxes on cigarettes, but without exception where cigarettes have gone up in price above 50 cents, people import, because it is cheaper. Universally (see New Mexico) that leaves these types of smoker funded programs unfunded which in this case would mean kids of those who claim to make under $80,000 per year (a presumption of accuracy if you swear to it) will be funded out of retirement programs intended for seniors who will definitely be making less than $80,000 when they retire, in part because programs like this one will bankrupt social security all the sooner.

If there is to be a health care benefit it needs to be universal like Canada's or the UKs, not just limit yet more the universe of those who carry the burden so it becomes prohibitive for those making one dollar more than the cut off.

HOWEVER, it is the continued enticement to bring illegal immigrants here in turning a blind eye to benefit abuses that makes me against this bill. The rest, if pushed, I could consider 'step one' in moving to a better system.

I do agree, though, that the social security check is better than what they had before (an affidavit was sufficient.)

I agree, something is going to have to be done - if they do not verify Social Security Numbers this program will be much more expensive than their original estimate, which is HUGE.

This is a massive program even if we do find a way to assure that only those who SHOULD be on the program are the ones that are covered. I think their conservative estimate is 60 billion in just 5 years (WOW) but if those who are not even entitled end up on this program the burden to the taxpayers will be unreal. Many taxpayers who themselves may not have health insurance!

I think it is just another outrageous slap for legal Americans that illegals think they should be able to come to this country and get free health care and want free college education.
Legal working Americans are dying from lack of health care and American students are in debt for years paying for those college educations while jobs are leaving the country.
My own legal American working cousin died at 56 years of age of cancer because she didn't have health care and couldn't get treatment that she needed. What is the matter with this government that it has sold out the American people?

i think of the numerous component is merely to word that illegals and anchor little ones account for approximately 0.5 of the "forty 5 million uinsured individuals" - - - - the extensive form comes from the Census Bureau's inhabitants surveys and that they survey the completed inhabitants meaning all people here, in spite of no remember if or not they are meant to be here or the place they got here from. Our medical coverage undertaking particularly, and our poverty undertaking usually, is imported. that doesn't unavoidably recommend kick them out. in spite of the undeniable fact that it does recommend that the endurance of poverty isn't an indictment of our financial policies, that all people isn't "starting to be adverse" interior the US. all people is escaping poverty, merely being replaced extra beneficial than a million for a million with new adverse human beings.

I can't help but laughing my **** off when I saw Ferengifighter's post..."will start a civil war"(?!)

As far as I understand about civil wars,it usually starts between the "CITIZENS" of a country over long standing unrest about god knows what. So why would cleaning out the illegal maggots
and leeches who have been feeding on our
public resources for way too long have anything to do with "starting a civil war"? it's more like SPRING CLEANING
