I just took my dog into the vet today and he was diagnosed as having Parvovirus. I know that it's a deadly disease for dogs who get no treatment. I just want to know if anybody has had a dog treated for the disease and what was the outcome?

EDIT: He's 5 months old and I took him in after the first day of vomiting. He wasn't to the stage where he even had diarrhea yet. He DID have his shots and I realize how much it (was suppose) to cost to prevent it. The doctor said that when we gave him his first round of shots that he was at the point where the "maternal antibodies" he had basically blocked out the vaccination we gave him. But that the "maternal antibodies" weren't strong enough to fight off the disease. Thanks for all of your responses though.

How old is the dog? How advanced is the disease? (has he reached the stage of pooing vast amounts of blood yet) Adult dogs usually survive with treatment, especially if it's caught in time - it's young puppies and old dogs who don't usually survive.

It depends on how early in the disease you bring the dog into the vet. I would say about half the dogs brought in die, but many people wait too long to take them for treatment. With early enough treatment almost all live.
This literally costs five dollars to prevent. You can give a dhlppc yourself for under five dollars in most areas. It will cost almost two thousand to treat.

i had a puppy about 2 years ago and he got parvo!! its was so sad. that disease is horrible. well at first i didnt know what was wrong with him but he had lost about 5lbs in just 3day! for a puppy that is alot of weight! so the vet diagnosed him with parvo and she said that most pups do not make it. anyways the point is that he made it $1,500 later!! it was so worth it!!! he stayed at the hospital for about 7days. on the 4day he began to walk and eat by him self. and by the 6th day he was wagging his tail and jumping on me when i went to visit! so he made it but the vet said that if i had waited till the next morning he would have dead!!!

I am sorry for him. I hope he will get well soon. This disease heavily damage the surface of intestines so absorbtion of nutrients in your dog's food are affected negatively by this situation which leads to some problems with development.

My friend had her dog treated for parvo. It had to stay inside for a long time, and lost a lot of weight and was told it wont grow anymore..

But he survived, and hes now as fit and strong as he was before.
As long as you get it treated in time, it should be fine.
Parvo only really kills untreated puppies and elderly dogs.

Id advise having your dog vaccinated against it once its over it.

Dehydration is what kills most of them. The vet knows how to treat it if caught early enough. Just remember it is contagious.
