I'd say for my family it's 50/50. My sons are older now and rarely home for dinner so it's just my husband and I most of the time. I love to cook so when I do I always try to make something special. We also have a few favorite restaurant (we live near a restaurant mecca) so once or twice a week we go out to dinner. It is expensive to do that, but sometimes you want someone else to make the meal, serve you and especially, clean up after you!

I cook every night unless it is a special occasion (birthday anniversary and the like). I even have the entire family over on the holidays and cook then no one has to bring anything I do it all. I love to cook and really hate to spend money on a meal when I can do it better at home.
There are very few convience foods in the cupboard everything is from scratch. there are too many preservatives and empty calories in the convience foods, not to mention more salt than in the oceans .
Not only do I cook nightly but I also can during harvest time usually tomatoes , salsa, pickles, lots of jellies and jams and I also freeze veggies saves a ton on the food bill and everything tastes so much better. The jams and jellies have less than 1/2 the sugar of the store bought and you can actually taste the fruit.

Cooking isn't hard or time consuming it just takes the desire

Before I had kids I ate out a lot! But had to stop that cause when I did the math we were spending in the upwards of 700 a month on fast food for just two people and plus I was starting to put on weight. Now I cook for a family of 4. I don't like it but I do it. It saves us about 400 bucks eating in which makes up for the fact I can't standing cooking or doing dishes.

I cook my own meals - I really love cooking although sometimes when I get home from work I cant be bothered making anything fancy, so I'll just make something really quick, like couscous salad. If I ever end up eating out or having takeaway more than a few nights in a week, I just end up feeling a bit ill!

When my husband was alive I cooked almost everyday. But the kids grew up and moved out and my husband passed away at a young age almost 2 years ago so now I only cook about twice a week and I heat up frozen food or go out. OR Just dont eat!

All the time. I'm a student, and I can't afford to eat out much. Also, cheap takeaways make you fat. I'm pretty lazy, though: either I cook in bulk and freeze it in portions (goulash, butternut pasta, curry, etc) or I bake frozen fish or chicken.

My easiest meal is cheat's fried rice: cook frozen veggies in the microwave, mix in leftover sticky rice, strips of omelette (normally I cheat even further and just poach an egg in the microwave) and low-salt soy sauce.

My other easy meal is baked potatoes with half a tub of fat-free cottage cheese (chives flavour), and salad.

That said, half my friends live on instant noodles or takeaways...

I do not have the confidence of preparing my own meals. Once i made fried mee hoon and my family commented that they were like rubberbands. So i would rather leave the cooking to my mum. If she is busy, i eat out.

I cook 90% of the time and enjoy doing it, but occasionally I fancy a takeaway or a lazy night eating a ready meal lol :)
