In the ideal, modern medicine is based on the scientific method: observation, investigation, experimentation and law. I don't exactly know what you mean by three body topic sentence.

An example of modern medicine advance would be in the field of surgery. First there was improved knowledge of anatomy and physiology, then the development of anesthesia, and thirdly the understanding of antisepsis and asepsis in avoiding post-operative infections.

Another example is the understanding of bacteria as a major cause of disease, and the development of vaccines, antisera and antibiotics.

Traditional medicine is, as the name says, based on tradition, with little or no scientific input. Treatment is based on testimonials of "experts" in the field, and represent opinions rather than fact.
