My son's birthday is approaching , i am planning to get him PS3 or Xbox 360 , but i do not have a clue , the decisive factor will be the near and far cost , not only the price tag of each one , but also the extra stuff u have to add , and the games too
so for a limited budget which one will be suitable ?

it is best to get an opinion from your son, marketing of these next generation consoles are dividing people up, so you shouldn't get a console that your son has in mind. if your son is not such a gamer, then addons and online play on the 360 would not be necessary thus lowering the cost. but technologies on the ps3 is much better than the 360. however, games are fairly expensive for both consoles. But you could consider the wii, which is way cheaper than ps3 and xbox( but it appeals to general public and children regarding the gameplay graphics, etc.) so it's really important to hear what your son thinks, if the brand and games doens't really matter, then pick the wii, if he wants games and wants now, get xbox 360, but for the best value (also the highest cost) you should get him the ps3 which has free online gameplay, bluetooth technology, blu-ray, memory cards readers, etc.

Definitely the PS3. Right now games-wise the Xbox 360 is better but within next year there will be about 200 games for PS3. Then there won't be any value for X box 360 which the PS3 is likely to serve for about 8 to 9 years. Plus the PS3 has more advanced hardware and can be used for lots of other stuff besides gaming. My suggestion- The PS3 is more than worth it.

Almost a third of XBOX 360 are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 3%.
Let's compare them

PS3 has 7+1 kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3x2
PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 50 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual DVD (9.5 gb).
Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second
PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in card reader (except 20 gb version), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 100 $

Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of doom" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 8 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it.

Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.

In 2008 we'll get more than 300 games, including Metal Gear Solid 4 and other great exclusives.

PS3 online world will be free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.

In some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".

The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console.

Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years.

The PS3 cost more for the console ($600), but the console includes a bunch of stuff that you'd have to buy separately for the XBox 360. PS3 has a larger harddrive, wireless internet, Blu-Ray capabilities, a built-in card reader and free online play. To get a similar package for the 360, you'd be paying closer to $900. I say 'similar' because by spending that extra money, you'd have a larger harddrive (120 GB as oppossed to 80), an inferior HD/DVD drive (instead of Blu-Ray) and you'd still be missing the card reader. Plus, the PS3 can be used with keyboards, mice, printers and can be programmed with additional operating systems.

The games and controllers are priced about the same for each. X-Box 360 has a better library of games right now, but in the long run they'll be even. The difference in power and game media (Blu-Ray vs. Dual Layer DVD) means that PS3 games are going to look unbelievable as developers progress. 360 games will pretty much look the same as they do now. Amazing...but not getting any better.

You also have to worry about the fact that close to 33% of the Xbox 360s have experienced malfunctions and overheating and just overall drama. Getting them repaired is free these days, but its still a hassle. You have to send it back to Microsoft and wait for them to fix it...after they fix the thousands of other 360s that melted. PS3 have proven to be pretty sturdy machine.

If you are short on cash and don't want a lot of extras, get the X-Box. If you can afford to get the PS3, buy it. In the long run you'll get a lot more out of it.

You get much more for your money in a PS3.

Many of the standard options on a Ps3 are things you have to purchase and add on to a 360.

Besides all the hardware add ons which can cost you better than an extra $300 bucks you have to pay $50 bucks a year toplay online ga,es on 360, PS3 is free.

I would recommend buying a 60gb PS3 for $500 dollars.

The XBOX 360 has all the best games right now so your looking at maybe 500 - 600$ for a system and games.
The PS3 dosn't have any games to offer besides resistance right now, so you will be paying more for less.
So buy a XBOX 360 !!!
Trek is really exagerating because if they have 200 about 99.9999 percent will really suck. Programming:p

for me

Xbox360
-mostly actions games
-cheaper (if the console only)
-xbox live
-great games this year

PS3
-only a few games this year
-great games next year
-cheaper console if you like the add-ons (WiFi,1080p,etc)

Wii
-for "young" gamers
(young game age means people who are new to video games possibly small kids, grand parents, etc)
-lot of friendly/party games

for me, if your kid is just around 9-12 i would get a Wii if he is around 14-18 then 360
i would buy a PS3 if YOU also like gaming/net surfing/playing BLU-RAY movies and other stuff

If you loved him you would get him a Wii. Buying either of those other systems would only demonstrate your scorn.
