If you need the "would", it should be "became", but the sentence then refers to an ongoing situation in the past. Every time more information became available, it was updated. It is a fairly awkward way to express this meaning, but this is the ONLY correct meaning.

If the updates are in the future, you want will and becomes.

If the new information is not necessarily going to be available, write "The document will be updated IF more information becomes available." If the document hasn't been written yet,
and the new information is not necessarily going to be available, write "The document would be updated if more information became available."

Lastly, if the document has already been updated and will continue to be, write "The document is updated as more information becomes available."

The document WILL be updated WHENEVER more information becomes available.

This would mean that the updating process is ongoing and as for "whenever", it means that the document won't be updated if there isn't new data and will be updated once new data arrives.

Became is the past tense version. Not applicable

The correct choice is the present-tense verb "becomes." It's all right to use "would" instead of the future-tense auxiliary "will" (which implies certainty that information is indeed forthcoming) because "would" is conditional and implies that information may or may not be forthcoming. So the gist of the sentence as you have it and with the use of "becomes" is "The document would be updated if and when more information becomes available."
