Why don't Christians do any of those things? Have you ever thought about that? I've seen some Atheists say that the Bible's the reason they became Atheist.

If you look at this site: http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/

You can see a lot of sick verses, and passages in the Bible. So why don't Christians do any of those things?

Yeah, I know you can claim "they're picking and choosing" but who goes through such a "disgusting and evil" book, and picks and chooses for as long as the Bible's been around?

And yes, I also know you can say "Some people need religion/ crutches" and some are in denial/ too stubborn/ being deliberately obtuse.

It just seems weird to me that when you enter a church, you're not thinking "these people are sick" and I don't think too many people can say they know a Christian who does all that stuff.

Two other things you might want to take into consideration:

1. I've heard a few Atheists say "Why aren't there any movies/ books where the main character discovers God is fake?"
There seems to be a lot of movies and books where non believers find faith again but none where they lose their faith and thats the end. It seems society, generally looks upon faith as something beautiful, not as something delusional or sick.

2. How could preachers get away with being Christian after all that stuff's brought into the open?

It's right there, in the Bible.

You'd think it wouldn't have lasted more then the first read through by someone before everybody realized it was an evil book and tried to destroy it. I know there are some people who don't know about the verses, but there are some people who make their life out of studying the Bible, and I don't think they all ignored those parts.

My question is this: If the Bible's so evil, and so corrupt and so sick:

1. Why is it still around?

2. Why don't Christians do any of those things?

3. Why do preachers still preach about the Bible when all that informations so easy to get by anyone?

You do a good job of making Christianity seem like a completely unstable religion with no foundations or anything to support it.

I'm going to try to answer you as best as I can.

1. The Criticism part:

I know about people being killed for arguing against it, and being afraid to voice their opinions because of that but one thing.

You have to take into consideration the commandment of "Thou Shall Not Kill"

God forbade us to kill anyone with that commandment, but the Bible can be used for Good or Evil, it depends on how you read it and what parts you like.

Which is kind of interesting that there could be two completely different sides in a single book.

2. About the burnings and killings, like I said above, there are two sides to the Bible, the good side and the bad side.

People that killed other people because they didn't believe or were witches, were using the bad side. Christians (the majority) don't do that.

3. "Preachers still preach because there is money to be made"

You generalized every single preacher that ever lived with that statement.

I'm sure some do it for the money and nothing else, people are like that but some people preach because they have a calling, not every preacher is fantastically rich.

Some people preach in poor, run down churches in bad neighborhoods because they know the people there need the Word of God.

You make every preacher out to be a money grubbing criminal, looking only to exploit people.

Not every preacher is rich.

And not every person that believes is looking to get rich either.

1. The reason that it is still around is because people are afraid to stand up to it with Criticism. They are afraid because hundreds of years ago people were murdered in it's name for speaking out. Now people are free to question it without fear. Sadly this fear is still ingrained in the minds of people...because they are afraid...that's why the saying "Fear is your only god" means so much.

2. If Christians went around doing everything in the bible they would be arrested. But like I said before, hundreds of years ago they wouldn't. But then a time came when people said..what the hell are we doing? Burning people for being witches and killing people for not believing are we insane?

3. Preachers still preach because there is money to be made. Think about it. Also they pick and choose and are afraid as much as their followers are.

Because most Christians have better ethics than their god does.

Also because if they did some of the things that the bible says they should they would get arrested and thrown in jail for the rest of their lives.

Additional details:

1) There are few pro-atheist movies because it would really piss off a small but vocal minority, and the movie companies do not want the agro.

2) See above.

More additional details
1. Why is it still around? Because of the ability of religious people to ignore reality.

2. Why don't Christians do any of those things?

See above. (again)

3. Why do preachers still preach about the Bible when all that informations so easy to get by anyone?

Because the people generally want to be told what the bible says. They want the preacher to pick out the nice bits and tell them what it means. They are willing to pay for this privilege of not having to think!

1. Why is it still around?

It is God's Word and He isn't going to let it be removed. Without His Word, we have no hope.

2. Why don't Christians do any of those things?

Do any of what things? There are events taking place reported in the Bible that talk about really bad stuff happening. This doesn't mean that God condones it. It means that it happened. If I write in a book about my neighbor having stolen a car and hitting a pedestrian, it doesn't mean that I endorse that lifestyle. I'm just stating it as a fact.

3. Why do preachers still preach about the Bible when all that informations so easy to get by anyone?

What do you mean? Elaborate please.

Ok - I don't know if I'm going to answer every one of your questions but basically....

Christianity is strong. Whether you believe or not & I happen to be one who does not.

When the fight to spread the Christian word started it was a brutal message that was being forced on those who were still of their old religion, be it Paganism, Buddhism, ....whatever. When something comes at you that strong, and with that much courage, conviction and need - it stays.

Why do people go to church still? B/c they were taught through years and years that this is where you can feel closer to God. Go the most holy spot to feel Him. AND....b/c to be with others who feel the same thing & share the same beliefs - is empowering. Where would spiritual oneness be most felt? By yourself or in a group?

I didn't choose not to be chrisitian bc of the bible, although it does seem far fetched. I simply see more sense in other religions.

Christians don't do any of these things because they aren't doing what the bible is telling them to do. Like you said yourself, they are picking and choosing. People were not picking and choosing for as long as the bible has been around. They used to live by the bible, and punish by the bible. And haven't you ever heard of the Crusades? The reason Christians no longer do those "disgusting and evil" things, is because the bible is no longer a political book. We no longer use the bible to tell us how to punish our rebellious teens.

You're right, faith is beautiful. It's always touching to watch children chant "We believe in you Santa!", so they can bring him back to life because he was almost dying due to non-believers. It's very touching. Who would want to watch a Christmas movie where Santa stops existing? That doesn't mean Santa really exists.

The bible has been around this long due to Christian nations taking over different countries and forcing their religion on the people of the lands. Now, there is few countries trying to take over other lands, so that doesn't go on anymore. However, it explains why the bible has lasted this long. Because it was spread around the world, and forced around the world.

Now it's not so much forced down peoples throats, but let's not forget about the great scare tactic they use. They have missionaries go around the world to "save" people from Hell. People are being told "If you don't believe me, that's fine.. BUT YOU'LL BURN IN HELL FOR ALL OF ETERNITY! Well, son, the choice is yours, you're free to choose not to accept Christ". Christians call it a choice of Free Will. I call it a Scare Tactic.

The scare tactic is necessary to gain followers, because God alone isn't existent enough to convince people.

Because it's a magical time capsule. It takes us back to a time when just "laying" with a woman could get her pregnant and mystical beings flew through the sky. We all want that, don't we? Oh, and who doesn't like a good old fashioned giant slaying story? I bet goliath was about 5'7"... Oh, and who could forget the bit about water-wine? Captivating. I miss pre-history...
Mim, How'd you figure out that the Quran was evil? Could it possibly be the cultural slant we have towards xristianity? No, that was obviously original thinking on your part...

Does it matter? Christians say the Bible is the word of God. This word advocates torture, rape, child murder, sexism, racism, and hatred. The fact that Christians don't do this proves nothing except that they don't follow the Bible as closely as they claim they do.

If this is truly the word of God, I'd rather stay as far from him as possible.

the bible is about God and history. it is only a way to open your mind to God and come to know him. I have read the bible many times and found God through Jesus. I only read the quran once and realised it was evil.

Because the human race is more civilized now (kind of), 2000 years ago people DID do those things.

Jesus said, "love God with all your heart and all your soul, and secondly to love your neighbor as you love yourself".
where do you find fault in this?
several parts of the old testament are inaccurate, by mistranslation. Don't dwell on incorrect memories, but follow a God of love, and do that same for all around you.
Do as Mother Theresa. Do you find fault in her?
Now think for a minute and don't think I'm just being opposite to argue. Don't waste your life with misery and hate. It only leads to spiritual unhappiness and tremendous misery after this life, even after the misery you created in this life.
Ask God for help. He's there. He hears you. He will always love and and always help you. Go to Him. He is father of Love for all.
