I keep reading people write pbuh after Jesus or Allah's name.
What is the significance of it? What is it that people try to convey?
The definition of word upon is:
On;
used in all the senses of that word, with which it is interchangeable.
a. So is Peace On or Over God (Jesus, Allah, others)?
Why not "Peace in God"?
b. Can the term God interchanged with Peace?
Or is it an abbreviated version of some other meaning?
Grammatically speaking it didn't make much sense to me, do you think the same?
Curious...

Thanks for the clarification that pbuh is applied after Prophets name and not God's name.
Still why do we ask God to bestow peace on prophets?

"Pbuh" means "peace be upon him". We, Muslims use it when we say the name of our prophets which include Muhammad, Jesus, Moses, Noah, Abraham and so on(peace be upon them all).
We Muslims don't take Jesus to be divine so when we talk about him we are referring to him as a man, a prophet.
"Pbuh" is not used for GOD. He is the Almighty, Most High , above all praises.

PBUH or peace be upon him or SAW salallahu allaihi wassalam is given to him as a prayer to Allah the only one God ,as an honourable act and as an evidence that all followers of him loves him very much.To other prophet we say a.s or allaihi salam and to Allah we say S.W.T or subhanahu wa taala means Allah the omni sacred and the highest.

pbuh = peace be upon him..... you will often see this after the mentioning of Prophet Muhammad, but technically this is incorrect.
"peace be upon him" applies to all the prophets except Prophet Muhammad.
A special salutation is reserved solely for Prophet Muhammad, sometimes written as (saw, or saas) which comes from the Arabic saying "sall'Allahu alayhi wasalam"
This translates as "May the graces, blessings, mercy and honour of Allah be upon him, and peace"
Muslims are commanded to say "alayhi asalam" (peace be upon him) after mention the name of one of the Prophets, but they are commanded to say "sall'Allahu alayhi wasalam" only after mentioning the name of Prophet Muhammad.
This is commanded in the Qur'an:
"Allah sends His Salat (Graces, Honours, Blessings, Mercy, etc.) on the Prophet (Muhammad) and also His angels too (ask Allah to bless and forgive him). O you who believe! Send your Salat on (ask Allah to bless) him (Muhammad SAW), and (you should) greet (salute) him with the Islamic way of greeting (salutation).

It's a Muslim thing. They believe that if you curse someone, even if they are dead, they will suffer torment forever. Instead they say, "Peace Be Upon Him" to ensure eternal rest. Usually it refers to their prophet Mohammed. Christians do not use this term.

It's just a way to show respect to their prophets. You analyze things to much.
