Why don't Muslims answer the question?

I've read many questions where enquirers have asked how Islam can be a peaceful religion when the quran is so violent and encourages so much revenge and punishment. But mostly all the answers from Muslims repeat the same thing.

"Islam IS a religion of peace and love. We are not all terrorists."

Well, the main question was, why is the quran filled with violence and visciousness? Why does it call for jihads and killings if Islam is a peaceful, tolerant religion?

Even the Christians have an excuse for the violence in their so-called holy book! They say, "That nasty stuff is in the old testament. We follow the new testament and ours is a peaceful, loving religion!"

Why have Muslims not been able to think up a suitable (though equally bogus) excuse like that?

Morganie - I'm refering to the old testament where God kills for revenge and allows humans to kill even their own children.

With all do respect first of all there are over 2,000 verses in the Qur'an and maybe only 20 (1%) of them deal with the rules of war engagement. And although there is one which talks about premptive strike (the rest clearly abot defense in context) against a known hostile force that still doesn't block the fact that the official rules of Jihad known by our scholars for over 14 centuries are in complete agreement with modern UN laws. Please guys stop watching tv because if its not a lie then its blowing out of proportion the acts of some foolish ignorant people who are more politically motivatd then (incorrectly) relgious.

asalam alaikum wr wb....Dr br in Islam. You are Obligated to live close enough to a masjid to at least attend Friday prayer, if AT ALL possible. U should make the istigharah prayer about marriage. If u honestly have no sexual desire then it is not obligatory for you to marry. It is difficult I know to find a wife here in the west. That is part of the reason i looked overseas to find a sister. Its Not hard br.....takes some time and effort but it is very do-able Insha'Allah. salaams

You need to take into consideration the context and the time in which the words were written. In any case, the Hebrew Bible (Christianity's Old Testament) is also very violent, and there are people who still believe in the Jewish faith without being violent.

And then there are human flaws. There's the ideal perfect religion, and there is the human recording part and reinterpretation which isn't always done in a peaceful manner.

For the reason that, on the scale of fanaticism, they probably rank last (8or9), having very little tolerance towards other faiths. Any discussions about the Holly Book Koran by others (read non believer), is not tolerated at all. However, moderate Muslims, hardly 10 percent, do think otherwise and see The Holly Koran in its right perception

I understand how you get this picture about Isalm from Quran.

When Islam started, it was underattack most of the time. So, the Quran called for Jihad, which is the right to defend yourself.

Most of these verses, were sent for a specific group, in a specific time, to fulfill a specific task. No one denies the right to defend yourself. And no one can say that you defend yourself by turning the other cheek!!

Islam called for peace, but also called for war when you are being attacked.

the Quran is so Violent ? Sorry to say, that statement comes from those who don't have deeper knowledge about Islam. Beside al Quran, we also used as Sunnah, Ijma', Qias and other permitted way for the rule of Islam.

the statement on Jihad also so pathetic because it had been interprate negatively... That's a big misunderstanding.

for me the Christians nowaday are too transparent and everything are too accesible especially on attire, sex, social life and etc

we will NEVER reject even a word in the holy Quran

because its word from god...

unlike the christians that they think by saying that,

they were safe from condemning....

Muslims were commanded to practice non violence for 13 yrs in Mecca and they were not even allowed to fight back in self defense.

When they past the test of restraint then verses were revealed that gave them permission to fight back and with no fear.

All verses must be studied in the context in which they were revealed.

That goes for Muslims and non Muslims.


If the Quran called for all Muslims to kill all the Non Believers then I guarantee you there would not be a single Christian or Jew alive in the Middle East for the past 1000 years.

You must be muslim,
which means you are from the descendant of Hagar, the mother of Ishmeal, who attacked Sarah, the wife of Abraham (or Abram), and was made to leave their camp because of her traitorship.
Muslims today want that same factor, that is, the anhialation of Jacob ( later called Isreal), and his descendants - we all know this as the jihad, or religious war.
Now if you are not able to comprehend this little bit of simpified history, you are neither able to also argue whether Judao/Christian beliefs are true or false (they are true, of course).
