Superstition abounds, doesn't it? While people turn away from science, facts and reason to dangerous superstitions and religions, it's obvious that we'll get a proliferation of vicious crackpots

When you put fear into a person you control them. Let's see - Jesus said do not judge anybody, does that sound like he judges then punishes! When the world disturbs the weather by different ways, pollution, climate change, etc. it is we the people that are punishing ourselves. If God is a God of love, why would he punish anyone? If God is a god of forgiveness, would he still punish after he has forgiven. No God has nothing to do with hate, punishment, anger, and so called "sins". Sin is a negative thought put into action by ourselves. If we get afraid of Jesus, then that is when the"preachers" can make rules and regulations to suit themselves. Look at the world today. Most fighting is being done in the name of one religion or another. Do you think Jesus wanted that?
He wanted us to follow his example of loving, giving, healing compassion etc. If everybody did what he has suggested, and what Bhudha has suggested and other great teachers, there would be no wars and probably, no harsh weather either. Do you really think that Jesus would do anything to harm anyone, punishing them with hurricanes and floods. I have never believed that.

Funny that isn't it, I heard that shortly after hurricane katrina some preacher who didn't live anywhere near there said that god was punishing those immoral people in new orleans because they had been leading such iniquitous lives.
And at about the same time a preacher who lived in new orleans was saying how god had looked after them because the levees only broke after it had stopped raining. So I guess it depends on who's side they are on.

I love how Homeland cited the Old Testament to justify delegating those disasters to God.... Sorry, Homeland, but I disagree with you on this one. God sent Jesus to us so that we could be free, removed, set apart from all of that. There is an internationally known ministry in Louisiana that suffered ZERO damage from Katrina, in spite of being directly in the path of the storm. Why? Because he pled the Blood over his property. He went without water, sewer, and power just like the rest of the population for 5 days, but his property was untouched. Now, that is a miracle of God and shows us what God will do for us if we will let Him.

Well, I think, because in the Old Testament, God used catastrophes to bring people to their knees and to repentance so they could return to a right standing with Himself. I believe applechick proved homeland securities point. I can't remember the exact verse something like...thousand will fall at your left and right but it shall not come near to you. That preacher was spared and God was graceful to Him while at the same time sending a message to the wicked. I know it's an unpopular message in a day when people only want the warm fuzzy Gospel but God does judge nations. He is in control and folks better start asking themselves "Just what is God trying to tell us?"

Two reasons:

1) To scare people into following them.

2) Because those preachers are heartless freaks.

Because some preachers are corrupt and preach their own gospel rather than God's. They act like no christians were harmed during the filming of these hurricanes.

Insurance policies have often referred to these events as acts of God. If he's to get the blame he can name his reasons.

Because they are trying to scare their listeners into do what the preachers want them to do and to give them money.

What does god do with all that money anyway?
