I want to go into a career using Spanish. I've just started my second year of college so I still have a LITTLE time to select a major but I'm in need of help. I don't know exactly what I want to do - which is why I'm having trouble selecting a major. Here's what I'm sure of... I want to do something with Spanish, I don't want an 8 to 5 desk job, I need human interaction, and I prefer hands on type work (or atleast not typing on a computer all day). No suggestions of becoming a teacher, please - I'm already aware that that is an option. Obviously, translating is also an option... SPECIFIC translating ideas are welcome. I'm looking for career choices (with majors needed to fall into that particular field listed) that I may not have thought of... there are MILLIONS of things that I could do with Spanish; what are your ideas? I'd prefer to stay in the U.S... not travel to other countries to work in a U.S. embassy or anything along those lines. Thanks in advance!

Work in a law firm. Spanish is just as important as English in this biz. I know, I was in it for many years and because of my Spanish, business grew BIG TIME!

Having a particular language skill is useful but not is not always something that helps you get a good job.

Yes, translation/interpretation/teaching are options, but you don't seem to be highly attracted to them.

Basically, if you are staying in the US there are many places where spanish is used.

What you do is choose a career and find a job where you need spanish. Social worker and business person.are extremes. Anything where you deal with people there are opportunities to deal with people in Spanish.

Though, you might consider an academic career, particular one in linguistics.

You could be an editor for a publishing company or a newspaper. I'm not really sure what you could do with a cinema studies major, but it sounds interesting.
