Flavor? I'd say Chocolate in old soda fountain days they added flavors to ice cream, like chocolate and vanilla or Cherry etc...
Ice cream didn't come flavored back then maybe only 40 years back??
I remember Dairy Queen maybe 31 flavor was back then?? not sure i know Howard Johnson's had flavors too! i don't know how many!

Not vanilla!!! The worlds first ice cream probably contained crushed berrys and snow, or maple syrup and snow. If you lived in Iceland, then it was whale blubber and snow. Vanilla wasn't discovered until much much later.

plain milk and sugar flavored I'd imagine, I don't think anybody put vanilla in it right away. Of course I'm just guessing but that kind of stuff kinda evolves from accidents like freezing milk or something.
