When smoking was at its peak, it was actually commonly known that cigarettes were healthy for you. A select and powerless few decided against smoking because they believed that smoking was hazardess to their health. Now that the evidence is clear that smoking is in fact hazardess to your health, everyone now knows the negative effects of it.
200 years ago, technology prevented us from understanding many of the marvels that life and nature produce. We're in an awkward transition that will finish in the next 200 years that will eventually make theists a thing of the past; like smokers.
It's hard to believe that we live in a world filled with such skepticism and disbelief, but so many of us can still cling onto a fantastical being that hopefully will fix our problems and provide an explanation to anything that is still unknown or unfair.

This is kind of a Catch-22..because atheists don't believe in God. So how would they think God knows?

that's kind of a silly question because if one is an atheist one does not believe in god at all and thus cannot possibly think god knows he doesn't believe in him if he doesn't even exist!

Atheists do not believe in God. They only believe in their self-centeredness.

I think you missed the point, we atheists don't think god exists. How can not think he exists but do think he knows we don't? Makes no sense.

Follow along closely: This might be tricky.
Do you believe in Santa Claus?
Take your time.
If you don't believe in Santa Claus, do you think Santa knows you didn't leave him cookies and milk last Christmas?

That is the stupidest question I have ever heard. If something doesn't exist, how can it know something.
Do you think unicorns know that you don't believe in them. Doesn't that question sound stupid?
