Friend does not know what happened to the cat....Gracie.
Gracie is now hissing at and in general acting angry towards litter mate ...Toby.
3 year old cats...one male..one female.
spayed and nuetered.
well taken care of cats.
you better believe they have had all the prescribed shots.
Friend took to Vet.....vet prescribed some antibiotics(just in case).
No obvious injuries.
Nothing.
I was over the house this afternoon and the cat is is sweet as usual.
except...still acting hostile towards other cat.
Pampered cats.

What might cause a shift in behaviour?

Toby is trying to be friendly but Gracie hisses at him.
This has been going on for a couple of days.

I will be checking in on cats while friend is out of town.
Another person is also stopping by to check food and water but she not much of a cat person.

I am the cat person and will be spending more quality time with the cat..

Got 6 cats to tend to for next five days:):)
Gracie and Toby at one house.
Sasha Sophie Sammy and Abbie at another.
Abbie is a neighbors cat that comes over for visit.
Sammy is grouchy cat that just showed up one day
Sasha is little grey/vaguely torty polydactyl and Sophie is Sashas litter mate...she is all black.

Sounds to me that Gracie is the alpha cat, and is determined to stay in the position. Toby may be trying to challenge this, without you or your friend knowing it. They communicate between themselves and we have no idea what is going on. What looks like Toby being friendly to you may actually be Toby teasing Gracie. She is just letting him know that SHE is the one in charge. It's no big deal, they will work it out.Eventually Toby will let her be and she will calm back down, until the next time Toby says he wants to be Alpha cat, and Gracie has to put him in his place.

Something that required antibiotics. Gracie is sick. She is probably cranky just like you were when you were sick. So be like your mom, and make sure Gracie gets her antibiotics whether she likes it or not. Give her special attention, just like your mom. In a week or so, she'll be well again, and back to her old friendly self. And you can be proud of yourself because you helped. Gracie is lucky to have a friend that cares as much as you do. And so is your friend. Good luck, and don't let Gracie down. We are all counting on you.

Possibly Gracie is more highly strung than Toby, and he's getting on her nerves. That happens with our two. The male is stronger than his sister and sometimes hurts her when they play. Make sure Gracie has no sore spots that Toby might unintentionally irritate. With luck, this hissy fit period will pass. All the best!

Toby is not smelling like Toby anymore for some reason or Gracie's nose is not working? Is Toby himself sick perhaps? Just a thought based on my own cats behaviors. Was Toby taken out of the home for any length of time...maybe to the pet groomers..the vet...ect...a place that would make him smell different?

Cats are very hierarchical so they need to work out who is in charge. Did you get them both fixed at the same time? If not, they'll hiss if the other cat smells different, which it will if it's just coming from the vet.

I'm thinking this is just a dominance issue and if you let them work it out, they'll be okay. They won't kill each other.

Not exaxtly sure...but...I do know that when I gave my 2 kitties a bath after rolling around in the dirt...Gypsie wanted nothing to do with Charlie *and they are usually never apart* She was scarred of him, hissed at him, and etc...

It was also funny because she kept looking around..like she was waiting for Charlie to come save her lol!!!

But, did you or the owners give them a bath. New perfume or any other smelling objects? Anything that can give off a new scent strong enough to overpower that of a cats scent would make her act this way..

Not exactly sure though..

This happens. Cat families aren't quite as loving as we would like to think, and I have known many cat siblings with relationship problems. My mom's cats are all from the same litter, and switch between loving each other and being annoyed with each other. My mother in law's cat that are siblings do not get along at all, because they each want the non-related cat to themselves.

As long as your cats aren't injuring each other, there is nothing to worry about.

Dominence. They're at odds over who is the dominant animal. In nature, it's usualy the female. Meaner and grumpier. Kinda like people. Males are larger but don't want to tangle with a grumpy female.

there's a undeniable variety of moth that likes to place eggs in dry cat or canines foodstuff. while he worked at a food market, my husband used to could many times throw away luggage of dry puppy foodstuff because of the fact they have been infested and purchasers does no longer purchase them.
