My mom's tried and true strategy was to get down there and whisper in the child's ear. The child has to stop the tantrum in order to hear what 's being said. She's only one, so anything you say will divert the child's attention and stop the behavior.

Give her another way to show her feelings. When she starts to get angry or anxious and pulls her hair, show her and tell her the substitute behavior. Maybe clapping her hands. That would be an activity that would conflict with pulling her hair and it is not harmful.

that is her stress relief... in order to get her not to do it, show her another better/more acceptable activity to do... does she talk? teach her words to say like 'im mad/sad/upset/scared' ... alot of times once they are able to voice what they are feeling, they stop doing the activity that is causing them harm... my son used to hit his head on the wall when he would get mad/frustrated/upset... i showed him to hit his head on his pillow on his bed... it lessened alot once he got enough words that people could understand... with hair pulling though, give her something to pull on/pull out when she gets frustrated... when you see her start to pull on her hair, give her what ever it is you have that she can pull apart... it can be anything from velcro to ripping a piece of paper and just sit with her and show her how to do it instead of pulling out her hair... it will take a few times, but she can be retrained... gl

get her a toy that she could hit or hurt as much as she wanted and it wouldnt get damaged (something rubber/ big rubber ball, etc)

take her mind off of it by playing music or turning on her favorite tv show

give her a time-out so that she learns her lesson
