Yes, they do. There are two different types: retrograde and anterograde amnesia. In retrograde, the individual remembers nothing before the trauma. In anterograde, the individual remembers nothing after the trauma. Additionally, there are several types of memory loss that the lay community associate with amnesia.

They can usually recall how to speak, and places can feel familiar, but they may not know why.
The person I knew did not know his own name, who his family was, or how to get home.
