Don't use a gun for cartilage. It's not safe. It sounds like you intend to pierce with a gun, replace the studs with rings very soon. If you're not planning to use a bar at any point, you're not getting an industrial. An industrial is created by pairing two cartilage peircings with a bar. Otherwise, it's just two differently placed piercings. Reasons a gun is inappropriate: it is much more dangerous for cartilage than lobes. Let's ignore the sterilizing issues. The earring used to pierce is nowhere near sharp enough to pierce cartilage. It may go through, but you risking severely damaging your ear by splitting or shattering your cartilage. Also, you will not be able to achieve the proper angles on the individual piercings to eventually have an industrial, if that's your intent. A gun simply cannot be aimed that well, nor are "piercers" using them trained well enough to understand the placement necessary.
Cartilage piercings, whether done properly with a needle or with a gun, will take much longer to heal than a lobe piercing. Jewelry should not be changed until healing is complete. The amount of time needed is at least 4 months. Nothing actually heals in 3 days. Your lobes may not have been swollen or painful after 3 days, but they weren't actually healed. Sure, people get lucky. That doesn't mean it's smart.
So there ya go. If you want 2 separate cartilage piercings that may/may not eventually heal, may/may not leave you with disfigured, scarred ears, go ahead with your gun piercings. If you actual want an industrial, get to a piercer. It'd be safer, smarter, healthier, etc. I know that won't get me best answer, by any means. but hopefully you realize that an actual industrial is complicated and takes skill to line up so that it can heal, and the gun itself does not allow for this to be done well, regardless of how skilled a gun "piercer" may appear to be. If the angle's wrong, the piercing will stay irritated and never heal fully...but it's your ear! I can only advise based on research and experience...

Normally, it takes between 4-6 months to heal. You should be able to take the gauge out and put it back in before it reaches this time, but there is a chance that it will seal back up if you leave it out too long. No, you shouldn't use a gun to pierce it! It has now become against the law to do that in Ky (that's where I'm at). You should have a piercing artist do it, because if you want a gauge then you need to remove a small piece of cartilidge for the gauge to fit right in your ear. Also if you get an industrial in your ear and you wear two different earrings in it while it heals there is a chance that it won't heal the right way for you to ever put a bar through it, because the piercings are adjusted to each other. That's your choice...however you feel like wearing them.

Not sure about prices in your area but I think it's around $60. As for pain, getting cartilage pierced is pain full, but go to a shop and get it done with a needle and it shouldn't be unbearable. I've heard it can be a be tricky to heal, but I think that's mostly because it takes so long. Just keep your fingers and hair off of it and you should be fine. It's just the usual aftercare, soak it with some sterile saline solution (H2Ocean is what most people use) don't use ANY soap as that can dry out the piercing and delay healing. Be careful when getting dressed/undressed, etc.

oh hun please don't use a piercing gun....EVER!!!! piercing guns are actually dirty and can never be cleaned. the stud that you use with the gun is actually very bad as well since it's blunt and forced in which in all causes unecessary scarring, pain, and sometimes damage to the area around it. one bad thing about industrials is that not everyone can have one since you need to have a specific ear shape, sometimes you can have one but you'll need to buy a custom barbell to fit in your ear which shouldn't cost that much( at my shop they're anywhere from $15-$20 not expensive at all and they're titanium) if you don't have the right ear shape or a barbell that fits properly the piercing will migrate more then it should and a high rejection rate not to mention unecessary pain that would have been avoided. so please go in and get the piercing done right for your health's sake. also the healing time is approx 9-12 months but it's different for everyone. you can use H2Ocean to help the healing process go faster, keep the piercing clean, and get rid of those crusties.

guns may be just about ok for lobe piercings, but it's a terrible idea to use a gun for cartilage piercings - it can crack it, and as it's unsterile (can't sterilise moving parts etc) it's more likely to cause infections. so if you pierce cartilage with a gun, if it heals at all, you're talking months (you're not supposed to remove piercings there for at least 12 weeks)
if you get it done, get it done by a professional with a needle. they will also be able to give you proper aftercare advice

i want my industrial also.
well first off, they do it with a needle. the gun isnt thick enough to take out the skin where the bar goes through.
it could take up to about a year to heal.
but my best friends healed in 3 months
