Atheists think that just because they're atheist they're smarter than everyone else because they have no faith. Actually, they're lying to themselves. If they believe in evolution, they're putting faith in scientific theory. Also, some of the greatest minds in human history had religions e.g. Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton.

As an atheist, talking to a religious person seems like this:

Them: "the bible says that 2+2=7."
Me: "That doesn't add up. 2+2=4."
Them: "No it's 7. the bible says so."
Me: "Look, here's 2 apples. Here's 2 more. Look how many apples I have now. 1, 2, 3, 4!"
Them: "No, that's just the devil playing tricks on you. You need to pray. The answers will come to you."

See how silly the believer sounds in this story. That's why I feel like I'm smarter, at least in some ways, than religious people. To be honest.

And about your little faith issue that you mention in the question: Everyone has faith in certain things. Like I have faith that my car will still be outside in the morning or that the mailman will come tomorrow afternoon. I have good reason to have faith in those things because my car is always there in the morning unless I moved it and there is a very slim chance that someone will steal it. And the mailman has come every day without fail (other than Sundays and holidays) for my entire life. But one thing atheists do NOT have faith in is religion because we don't feel that there is any reason to believe it is true.

First, we have to determine whether atheists think they're smarter than everyone else. I don't know if that's actually the case, or whether there have been any studies done or research conducted.

The reason I've raised this issue is because a great many people use questions beginning with "Why" as a means of submitting the most inane statements. Generally, these statements are attacks on people or groups of people with whom the poster does not disagree. What happens is the poster will "ask a question" such as this: "Why do communists eat Christian babies for breakfast?"

The reader of the question, unless he or she is aware of this underhanded and rather crude rhetorical trick, may actually think that the observation in the question has some merit.

I don't suspect that you'd do that, of course. You probably have no axe to grind or any particular point of view to push that would allow you to engage in such manipulative nonsense.

that is only you. Face it. How complicated is it to be smarter than a believer while it is composed of a communicate approximately faith. only seem on the discussions in this section. What do the Christians god. The cosmological argument, the teleological argument, irreducible complexity, pascal's guess, and not something in any respect supported by utilising reality or info. you may no longer want a god into life. in case you want to be taken extra heavily, that is as much as you to sound extra clever. that is not that atheists are extra clever. that is that the religious community has been utilising the comparable old debunked religious arguments for the previous 3 hundred years. provide it a relax! you have no longer any info and all your arguments are per logical fallacies. The bible is a e book of contradictions, over 50,000. And a textual diagnosis of the recent testomony, while placed next with historical manuscripts, properly-knownshows over 4 hundred,000 textual errors. in basic terms 7 of the epistles ascribed to Paul could have been written by utilising him. all of us be responsive to not one of the authors of biblical texts and we've no unique texts anyplace. If the bible is the worldwide of God, we've not got it. So, heavily, how complicated is it to sound smarter than a Christian?

Cut the crap:

1. I don't think I am smarter than most people. I know I am (98th percentile, if you believe the tests -- but who cares? It's not the reason I'm an atheist).

2. Evolution is supported by evidence. It doesn't require belief.

3. "putting faith in scientific theory." Sure. With one key difference: We have evidence. Each time you type on your keyboard and send information over a fiber optic cable on the internet, you prove the importance of science. There is no evidence for faith and competing belief systems.

4. Albert Einstein was an agnostic and did not believe in a personal god. Issac Newton was also an alchemist, so I don't know how seriously you want to take that. He also lived before Darwin.

"putting faith in scientific theory"
You're right, I should stop putting faith in gravity and basic mathematics too. Also, the greatest mind of our time is agnostic (Stephen Hawkings) and the Albert Einstein claim is debatable. Finally, I would agree with one of the users above me that most people think they're smarter than everyone else.

I don't think I'm smarter than everybody else. And Albert Einstein was most likely an agnostic or an atheist... Have you read some of his quotes?

Try again.

Well thats a huge generalization, it's like saying all theists are fundamentalist radicals. Also scientific theory relies on evidence, and when theists claim there is a god they are faced with the burden of proof so unless the theist produces evidence to back up their claims the atheist can simply assume it's not true. Also einstein described himself as a "deeply religious non-believer" in otherwords an atheist

"some of the greatest minds in human history had religions e.g. Albert Einstein,"

We're not smarter than everyone else, just people who make false claims like this one. Do your homework.

Faith in a scientific theory in no way correlates with faith in the supernatural. A scientific theory can be falsified. The supernatural cannot. If the scientific theory is found to be inaccurate, it will never be referred to again (except perhaps as an explanation for how the newer theory developed).

Science is a means to find better answers. Religion claims to have answers that may never be questioned.

It's not a question of being smart it's just commonsense and being able to follow a logical and consistent train of thought.
While it is true that some men who had great minds in a particular discipline were believers in a deity, it is equally true that other similar men did not hold this belief.
