Yes you should neuter him and you should do it as soon as possible! He's the right age right now.

You can't make him less of a man. He's a dog! LOL

Benefits of neutering at 6 months of age:
-better behavior
-less marking things (peeing on everything)
-no chance of developing BPH when he's older (BPH = benign prostatic hyperplasia that about 90% of male dogs develop if they are not neutered -- it can get so bad they must be neutered at that point)
-no chance of developing testicular cancer
-no chance of getting out of the house, roaming around, getting hit by a car, or impregnating a female dog
-less chance of developing urinary tract infections

Benefits of not neutering:
-none -- I don't believe that the ability to impregnate a female dog is a benefit therefore I'm not listing it

I know right now there are no female dogs around, but if you plan on him living 15 years, a lot changes in 15 years.

Take responsibility and make a wise and mature decision.

Neutering does change the dog's characteristics and degrades them for some work and sporting uses but for the majority of people who have only a pet, it makes sense to do so. This is especially true for females and is best done from 4-6 months of age since there are medical reasons for doing it. While medical reasons for males are insignificant, it will make roaming when a female is in season much less likely and neutered males rarely fight. Even if prevented from roaming, a whole male can be a pain in the butt (whining, prancing, escape attempts) if there is a female in season within a mile or so upwind.

For the health of your puppy you really should get him neutured.

Dogs can get testicular cancer the same way that humans can and the chances of dogs getting this kind of cancers and others goes down to nearly zero when they are neutured - most vets will neuter between the ages of 6 and 9 months which is plenty of time for the "plumbing" to develop.

Another major reason to get yout dog neutured is that he will have a sweeter nature and be easier to manage without all the hormones raging through his system. He will be less inclined to roam and get into fights if he is fixed, and this means that he will lead a longer and happier life with less visits to the vet clinic.

And finally if you have him neutured you willbe showing that you really are a good dog owner by helping to prevent the birth of more unwanted stray puppies. The only reason to keep an entire dog (male or female) is to breed - and you should only do that if you know what you are doing.

One simple operation and your boy will be a happier and healthier pet. Don't put your emotions onto the dog - the only difference he will notice is that he doesn't have the urge to chase any female in season anymore.

Here's my 2 cents, get him neutered. I had mine neutered at 7 months and he's still a macho hunting dog. He has a less chance of getting testicular cancer. The vet said to keep him laid back for a week, but he was fine the next day. It hasn't changed his demeanor except he doesn't hump my leg anymore.

But that's a good thing.

No, it will not make him "less of a man". Neutering him will make him a better pet and prevent some health problems associated with male hormones. It will not change his personality or masculinity.

Dogs do not have a macho problem. Neuter him and he'll still be a great dog, just unable to reproduce. Males tend to fight less, roam less and aren't so interested in marking their territory.

You should neuter him. He won't get testicular cancer. Neutering will also calm him down. You may not have a female dog, it won't keep him from trying to breed a neighbor's ***** in heat. Your dog won't be anyless of a dog without testicles, in fact he'll be a nicer pet.

He is a dog so he can't be any less a man than he already is! Unless you plan on breeding him then most definitely get him neutered! It is better for him healthwise!

It will make him a better dog because he'll be thinking with the brain in his head! We have four male dogs, all neutered and they are no less of a man. They are all very successful agility dogs competing at the highest levels.

Neutering him now will prevent him from getting testicular cancer. Dying from cancer is not particularly manly, is it? It will make him a safer and happier pet. It will be the most responsible thing you can do. Go forth and neuter your dog. ;-)
