no seriously, why do people, esp. women need so many clothes and shoes? Like Kimora Lee Simmons was on a show and said she had over 300 pairs of shoes!!! WTF??? How on earth are you ever going to get a chance to wear all of those shoes??? And why have them if you are not going to wear them? I just think it is so sad...I mean I personally only have 1 pair of sneakers, 2 pairs of tennis shoes (one which I no longer wear and am looking to get rid of), and 2 pairs of regular (non heeled) dress shoes (which I will probably keep for now). I don't even like heels because you can't move fast in them without falling. I also have only 3 pairs of jeans and 2 pairs of pants, along with a number of shirts. I don't even have that many shirts, but I still want to get rid of some because I feel it is useless to have them unless I wear them. And I got just about everything for free or from the thrift store. I am also in college and still can't drive despite being 21, so I certainly do not have a car.

I think so many people just take things for granted and don't even appreciate what they have. There are so many people out there who would love to have just ONE pair of shoes, and yet here people have hundreds of shoes that they don't even wear. Did you know that as a child democratic presidentail candidate Dennis Kucinich once wore the same pair of pants for the better part of a year until someone at school noticed it and began making fun of him? It just goes to show some people have come from, and in some cases are still living in, while you see others just going out and taking everything for granted, like it's nothing. Ever since I can remember I have dreamed of attending a WWE event with the Big Show there so I could see for myself how big he was. But of course that never happened because I could never get tickets, and now the Big Show is out of action, so my dreams have pretty much gone down the drain completely.

I just think it is so sad...things that seem so simple are yet so elusive, and people die without ever being able to go out and doing things that they dream of doing, all because they can't afford to do them

also, I have a few pairs of shorts and 2 skirts which I was lucky enough to have my aunts who came here to MD from CA buy me. If it were not for them I would have NO shorts or skirts and would just have to wear pants and jeans.

Kimora Lee Simmons is a fashion designer, heeelllooooo!!
she's suppose to have a lot of clothes and shoes and all that other fabulous stuff, daaaang.
Why y'all hatin??
She has the right to have as many material possessions as she wants just like you have the right to have the same.
If a person has the money to live like that then so be it.
Who are you to question why and what somebody does or doesn't do with their money?
If you don't like and think it's useless to have a lot of clothes, shoes, bags, cars, houses or whatever than that's your choice. But don't be hatin on someone who does.
That's what's useless.
If you ain't rollin in the dough like the celebrities or any rich people for that matter then you have to live within your means.
Don't hate because you're not on that high statues.
Just work harder and smarter so that one day you'll be able to live a little better.

Every girl should have these essential items in her wardrobe... 1. Basic Black Dress - The basic black dress has been around for a long time. It is often called the "Little Black Dress", and it's true that shorter skirts on the basic black dress, when they hit you in the right place, can be more flattering than a long black dress. 2. Trench Coat - The trench coat is one of the pieces that is both classic and currently a hot fashion item. Most any store sells this piece now. It is great for fall and you can pick it up in a wide range of lengths. 3.Dress Pants - Although it doesn't say black, this is probably what you want to look for. Black is flattering on all figures and goes with everything. 4. Classic Shirt - The white shirt is a definite classic. But it can also come in many different styles to make it look trendy and not dated or like a man's piece of clothing. Find one that accentuates your best attributes and minimizes trouble spots. For example, if you have wide shoulders, stay away from large collars. 5. Jeans - Everyone has a pair of jeans, but does everyone have a pair of jeans that make them look great? The wider leg, low-rise jean style has been popular (and still is) but a narrower leg is coming back along with a higher waist, which eliminates the unflattering "muffin top" look. 6. Any Occasion Top - Find something you look great in that can look respectable under a jacket but bring on the fun after hours. 7. Skirt - If you need dress pants then you also need a skirt. A skirt is womanly and can be flirty or businesslike. Nowadays women do not wear many skirts or dresses, which makes a lot of them fall into a rut of dressing sloppily or like men. See number 8. 8. Day Dress - Women also are not wearing as many dresses anymore. It was certainly liberating to go from the '50s when women wore dresses every day to wearing more practical pants for gardening, exercising, and so forth. But the dress does not have to be abandoned altogether. They can be very flattering, and there is nothing wrong with "dressing up" for daytime. 9. Jacket - A jacket does not have to be masculine. Find one with a proper, fitted shape. Women's jackets should follow the silhouette of a woman's body and accent the hourglass curve at her waist. It is also a perfect piece to put with the skirt or dress pants, and white shirt. Or make it casual with a pair of jeans. 10.Sweatsuit Alternative - As mentioned before, women wear fewer skirts and dresses these days. But some women have taken casual to the extreme and spend days on end in sweatsuits. It is possible to be casual and comfortable without looking like a slob. Find a comfortable material (that's why this doesn't say jeans again – denim is not as comfortable as a nice soft cotton) that you would want to wear every day. It could be khakis, cords, a cotton dress, or much more. And an indulgent item`1

It's not need, it's want (in most cases). I personally WANT a lot of clothes. I actually enjoy going to work if I have something new to wear.
But I shop resale. Not that I'm green or anything; I'm just frugal. And I couldn't feed my habit if I shopped resale.
As for shoes, I try to keep it to a minimum. Perhaps if I had more closet space I'd feel differently, but in many things, including shoe ownership, I try to be low maintenance.

It's called freedom of choice-some people like to have a lot of stuff. I myself don't have a lot of clothes, but it seems you must live in a very even climate if you don't have clothing for different seasons-where I live the temp goes from 0F to 100+F so I have shorts, tank tops, jeans, sweaters, various jackets/coats and shoes appropriate to the weather as well. Some climates are even more extreme.

I like having clothes because I have a lot of different outfits for different occasions and seasons. I love fashion and dressing in style. I don't want to get stuck needing an outfit for a certain event and not having the proper attire.

I agree. People like Kimora Lee Simmons own a bunch of clothes because they have nothing else to lean on. They pretty much imply, "I have more than you. Envy me and be miserable." That is basically what our society has become. It's really not that great, owning the latest fashion and such. I splurged my savings on an LV bag, thinking I would be happier. Instead, nothing 'amazing' happened to my life. I had the same friends, the same clothes, the same style. And unless you like people envying you for such a superficial reason, there really is no point in spending money on clothes that go out of style almost instantly.

I think it is very vain, and a waste to have so many clothes. Especially people who are so rich that they can give many of those things to people who are needy.
I think it's good that you are not so involved with your looks that you have to buy 1000 dollars worth of cloths each year. I only have about 2-3 pairs of pants I like to wear and that are comfortable. I probably have 5 pair of jeans. Most jeans look alike so who will know? Why bother?

Don't care at this point as long as they don't impose their extravagant shopping habits on the rest of us. It's bad enough to find clothes/shoes to feel comfortable with without being victimized by the fashion industry as such.

they don't. its a status thing for some, its an ego thing for some, its a way of life for some.
i work in a warehouse - my wardrobe consists of a dozen tops, four hoodies, six pair of jeans/leggings/trousers, sufficient unmentionables/half dozen nightshirts/two pair of sneakers and one pair of cowboy boots.
i have a winter dress, a summer dress, a cocktail dress and three pair of heels. one winter coat/hat/mitts/boots.
two purses - you got it - one summer/one winter.
thats it, now that i have written it all down it sounds like an awful lot! but i don't think it is. oh well!!!!

I agree. Having 400 pairs of shoes is being excessive. They should give to charity more.
