Thinking of working as bartender?

I am thinking about working as a bartender and I just wanted to double check on how much generally will my boss would pay me.. how much is that? and also, generally how much in tips.. (how much does someone usually leave or all together in one night for tips)

Also, what stuff should I wear while working at a bar?

Bar work can be pretty good, and the tips vary depending on where you work and how drunk the customers are. How much fun you have also depends on where you work. Bar tending in a 5 star hotel would mean big tips, but pretty boring. Tending bar in a hot night club or trendy bar might let you meet some nice boys or girls too.

The hours vary too, there are jobs that are of the 9-5 variety, but of course the tips are lower.

The clothes vary. White shirt black pants, or black t-shirt black pants are common non-uniform uniform. But it varies on between places (some are casual, some are formal, some provide uniforms).

Pay varies too.

Bar tending is fairly casual work, easy to find and lose. Getting into it is usually a process of doing a short bartending course (or learning on the job) and then going to different places looking for work.

Bar tenders I know enjoy the work, but it is not a life long career.

The answers to your questions depend a great deal on the location of the bar (i.e., New York City -vs- Hicksville), and the society that the bar attracts. Bars with restaurants generally make a bartender more money, but can also make less customers if people are there to eat.

My daughter works at a high-end restaurant in Bethlehem, PA, as a bartender. She makes great money in tips, but she's been there a while and she dresses very classy and acts appropriate.
