uh hum.. I have 11 cats, all rescues. I live in an extremely rural town and there are no shelters or kindly vets, there are no homes to place them in.. not many cat lovers here either so when they end up on my doorstep they have found a home. Some of mine were horribly abused by previous owners (detached retinas...brain damage from being microwaved, starved to the point of blindness), some were dumped, one was dumped because she was pregnant, one I found starving and strangling on my porch (her old collar had eaten a raw bloody ring around her neck and we had to cut the collar out of her flesh).....They are well fed, clean and cared for, they have their own places in the house to go to, with the exception of the two kits..they are all altered..which I paid for, they all get proper vet care even though it is a 50 mile drive one way, they are all well groomed and well socialized..am I crazy?? no..a cat lady?? yeah I guess *LOL*

edit: no they are not all named fred hahaha

I have four cats, all of them taken out of really bad situations, so I guess that makes me a cat lady? Hmm. Go figure.

I personally consider it to be 8 or more, unless the person is doing fostering/rescue work or something to that effect. In which case, it is as long as the animals in question are well cared for.

Generally to me it doesn't matter how many as long as they are really well taken care of, and their house doesn't have 'signs' of pets in them.

Personally, I keep my home spotless and my pets terribly spoiled. To the point where when some people meet my animals for the first time; their reaction is something to the effect of: "When I die, can I be reincarnated as one of your cats? Please?"

However if the house is a huge mess, there are a ton of poorly socialized cats everywhere, feces on the floor, the house smells like urine, cat hair all over the clothing and furniture, then that is a cat lady to the point of needing help. No animal should ever be kept like that, and no human should live in that kind of a mess, either.

Well, that is my two cents. Hope it helps!

I think it depends on the condition of her house, her cats, and the woman in question. I would guess the turning point would be around 4 or 5.........but my aunt has 7 cats and YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW IT. Her house is spotless, never any cat hair or odors. So even thought she's got 7 cats I would not call her a cat lady. Now if her house smelled like pee and she had hair all over her clothes and her furniture, she'd be a cat lady.

In general, more than 4. However, if a lady comes to work with cat hair all over her work attire, she may be considered a cat lady even with fewer cats.

I love cats and don't mean this mean.

But I'd say more than 5 = cat lady.

When do they become a 'crazy cat lady'? At around 15, if the cats are not well cared for. If they are well cared for, then cat lady is not crazy, just cat lady.

LOL

In most cities the legal limit on pets is 3 to a household. I'd say that if you are over the legal limit in cats, you are a "cat lady".

I have two but would have more if I had the time and space to care for that many, I'd say any more than 15 is too many in one place.

I had 3 cats for many years. I thought I might be pushing it, but wasn't quite there yet.

I just have one cat, now. His name is Fred, though...
