I owe the phone company for moving out of state (where they dont' have service) and breaking a contract. They want $480, lol. Won't let me out of it, even though I have 2 kids and no child support. So I guess I will fill up the master card and declare. Does that mean I can't continue on with studen loan and keep going to university? Do they go after my ex for support?

Bankrupcy stays with you for 7 years and means that no credible loans people will lend you money.

You still owe the money whether you moved to a different town or not, so that's really not an excuse. But $480.00 is not a very big debt, so it might not figure in your loan application. Even if it does, if you get a job it would be pretty easy to pay that off.

I'm sure you were joking about running up the credit card on purpose.

If you're not getting child support, go to your state's child support enforcement office.

Your bill collectors won't go after your ex because he's not responsible for your bills even if he does owe you money.

I wouldn't go to that extreme for $480. Just send them like $20 a month or whatever you can afford until it's paid off. They'll leave you alone as long as your paying something. If you declare bankruptcy you'll have a hard time getting any sort of loan for at least 10 years.

Lots of people think that once they’ve filed for bankruptcy they will be unable to ever get a loan again, and ultimately they are unable to do anything financial ever again. This isn’t always true, there arewill help to improve your credit history in a number of different ways.
