Hi Seth,
I am not sure about your definition of "devout". I know a lot of Christians who go to church every week, say their prayers, and go through motions....they are "devout". What matters though, is your personal relationship with God. If you have a personal relationship and still feel like you are drifting...then you must not go by "feeling" because it is a lie from the devil. God said "lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." (Matthew 28:20) God cannot lie. (Titus 1:2)
Here are some promises for you to claim for yourself and pray them back to God;
" In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He SHALL direct thy paths."(Proverbs 3:6)
" For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and FIND me, when ye shall search for me with ALL YOUR HEART." ( Jer.29:11-13)
" Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you WILL perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." (Phil. 1:6)
" Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you."
( James 4:8)
Seth, I will pray for you to choose to believe in God's promises whether you feel something or not because I understand that feelings FOLLOW choice. "Thank you so much, God, for Seth's need to be closer to you. Please surround him with your presence and help him know you better. I ask this in Jesus' name, AMEN!"

Here is my testomony..sorry so long but it's sincere and I really hope it encourages you.
Devotion true faith does not make (although true faith devotion does make). For years I thought I was a Christian...but I did not have the indwelling of the Holy Spirt that changes you completely from the inside out. I loved to go to church, sing songs, go on the trips...I had friends from all backgrounds and was considered the good christian girl in my group. I volunteered, didn't drink, didn't do drugs, went to church religiously (no pun intended:-))etc.... Very devout!!! If you had asked me then if I were to die would I go to heaven I would have said yes...and I would have been wrong! I went through periods of doubt here and there but was always an alter call away from "reaffirming" my "faith". Then some very painful personal experiences ripped my "faith" and I felt so far apart from God and Jesus that I fell into a few years of searching...I looked into all kinds of other faiths for answers. New Age mystical practices, Buddhism, Mormonism, Islam, Urantia...(don't ask!), etc...I ended up in a world so far from Jesus that I even started to deny him as savior and only a wise teacher! My marriage suffered greatly. Now I have found God and without even trying all the sins and bad habits I picked up during that time, and ones I had then but didn't recognize as all that bad, I have quit without so much as trying.I am repulsed by what I know God would not have me be a part of. I am so consumed with love for Jesus and the world and want to give all I have so no one goes without...I never had this level before when I called myself a christian. Only after some inner reflection and a serious prayer of repentance and truly realizing how much I do not deserve the gift of Jesus' sacrifice was I finally home. We are not promised a light load just because we are Christians...Jesus asks us to also carry a cross and promises only one thing...And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life. (1 John 2:25). I understand the lukewarm Christians in this world make it hard to find faith but look to Jesus only. I pray that you will find your way and find strength in he who comforts. Good luck. I am not very eloquent so here are couple of sermons I have found that I really like and a testimony from a former Muslim that is very well said and touching. God Bless!!!

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called… (1 Tim. 6:12)

I know how you feel, I had the same feeling for a long time. All I can say is, listen to God. He talks to you more than you think, you just need to listen. I never hear it in words, but in feelings myself, but it may be different for you. Another thing that helped me out was going to large Christian events with a lot of worship, or at least a positive atmosphere. Also, take a look at your actions, do they seem right to you? Or do they feel kind of off? It's a difficult question to answer, but it's more than possible to get back on the right track.

Unlike all other religions, Christianity alone possesses a founder who transcends death and who promises that His followers will do the same. All other (false) religions were founded by men and prophets whose end was the grave. As Christians, we take comfort in the fact that our God became man, died for our sins, was killed, and was resurrected the third day. The grave could not hold Him. He lives and He sits today at the right hand of God the Father in heaven. The living church has a living Head.

Remember the bible sais all fall short of the glory of God. All you ca do is pray that the Lord will strengthen you and remember also if it feels like God is not doing anything with you, that He has His own time table and will answer your prayers when he finds they will be most affective. Remember whatever happens He will win out in the end
Gods Love to you brother.

You are fine and very normal. I, too, am very close to God but sometimes I feel adrift. I just pray and accept that I am human. Continue to pray and stay true to yourself and God and it will all come back into focus.
In the meantime, go to your church and talk with your pastor. He can be incredible strength to you at this time in your faith. YOu also have all of us here. I will pray for you.

"Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God". It sounds like you need to find a good bible teaching church and get into some bible study. That will be a solid foundation for you.
And don't be confused by Islam. A person can be "devoted" to any belief. Devotion in and of itself does not render a belief true.
The only way to the only God is by His son, Jesus Christ.

Yep they're devoted alright. Look at 9/11.
You need to get into the word of God every day. Read it. Study it. Hear it.
Rom 10:17 So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

even if your drifting, you are still on the ocean of faith.
unless there is something else you want to beat, besides your back.
All God needs is faith, He will forgive and forget. Just trust Him. It will be alright. Besides, what you're asking has nothing to do with faith in God, but religion. Keep your faith, drop the politics.

we all feel that way sometimes. but listen to this. Saten works hardest to tempt those who are closest to God. he's already got control of those others for the most part, so he focuses on us. it makes us feel horrible, when in fact, we are doing better than most. his idea is that we will give up and join him. but you just have to realize that he's making things harder for you and ignore him. keep praying, have faith, and don't give up. no matter how hard it gets, you are God's child, and the only one who can defeat you is yourself. Saten is powerless against the faith that can move mountains. and like jeramiah p. ahead of me said, examine your actions, go to church events, and read the word. these will strengthen your faith and help drive off Saten.
