I have a child who will be six in December. He's been wanting to sleep more. Is this a sign of a growth spurt? Do children have growth spurts at age five?

Sure they do. My 5 year old has grown a ton this summer/fall. Also he may just be really tired from his school day. I know by the end of the day my son is just wiped out. If it gets to the point of abnormal though I would call his doctor just to be safe, maybe he is anemiac which can cause low energy.

Hello, firstly dont read too much into silly diagnosis's about bi-polar and stuff because most kids at some point go through a 'tantrum, mardy stage' though yours is just going through it a little later. Next, look at when she is acting up - chat to her teachers and check everything is ok at school and chat to your daughter about it too, you said yourself she is smart so she will be able to communicate the problems easy with you if there are any. Also, without sounding a tad mean, could she be acting up for attention? You said she is worse than the two year old, so I'm thinking you mean your other child? If so maybe she is a little jealous (as kids get jealous easily). Boarding school is a big No in my eyes and I think thats a last resort, even though I would never ever ever use it. Spend some quality time with your daughter one-to-one, maybe painting or something just the two of you and casually ask questions about school and her sibling etc to see what her reactions are, and finally sit her down and get down to her eye level and talk to her nice and calmly and explain that her behaviour lately is un-acceptable. Hopefully it'll all work out soon :) P.s also a tip to keep you calm just breath deep and count to five :)

Absolutely! He will eat differently and sleep differently - in my experience it is usually more of both during a growth spurt!

he will have periodic growth spurts all through his youth. My son will be extra hungry for a week, and then outgrow all his clothes!!
