That is where His family resided. His father and mother lived in Nazareth. They were only in Bethlehem to pay their taxes.

He was born in Bethlehem when his parents had to report there for a census. Then his dad took them to Egypt for 2 years to escape Herod. When they moved back, they relocated to Nazareth. It was considered like New Jersey back then. For whatever reason, lots of people felt like Nazareth was an "armpit" city. There was a phrase that went "can anything good come from Nazareth?" meaning people didn't respect Jesus because he lived on the wrong side of the tracks.

Matthew 2:23
And he came and settled in a city called Nazareth, so that what was spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, He shall be called a Nazarene

Under God's soverign arrangement Caesar Agustus ordered the first census of the Roman Empire. It was through that census that Christ was born in Bethlehem to fulfill the prophesy concerning His birth. He stayed there a short time. Then because of Herod's persecution He was taken to Egypt and subsequently He aws brought back to the Land of Israel. Because of Archelaus's reigning over Judea in the place of his father Herod, Christ was brought to Nazareth, a despised city of Galilee, and was raised there. HE was born in the esteemed town of Bethlehem but grew up in the dispised city of Nazareth. Hence he was called a Nazarene.

His home was in Nazareth - that is where his family returned to after fleeing Bethlehem for Egypt (because an angel warned them and Herod sent his soldiers to kill all the boys of a young age.)

He was born in Bethlehem because Joseph was from the tribe of Judah and had to go there to be taxed. But He was raised in Nazareth, the Joseph and Mary lived.

I think it was because he got a break on his taxes and insurance by listing Nazareth instead of Bethlehem.

Nazareth was his "hood"...that's where he grew up and where people knew him from. Remember Bethlehem was just a "pit stop" the family couldn't even get a room there.

Nazareth is where He grew up and spent a lot of his time. He was born in Bethlehem, but left quickly.

Just like I consider myself of California where I live most of my life, though I was actually born in a different place.

His parents' home was Nazareth and it was typical for a child to be considered from his parents hometown rather than where he was born. It is there that they are on the "books" and pay taxes.
