For big ones, pop them and get them cleaned out. If you do it right you don't scar and it is an immediate relief of pain, and stops contamination because the pus is gone. You do need to clean the spot well when you are done so it doesn't re-infect.

For preventions:

Use the right skin products for your skin type. If you are overcleansing, you actually stimulate more oil production and this leads to more acne.

Give makeup a rest. Honestly. Go bare for a few weeks and give your skin a chance to breathe. I know it sucks to just let all the zits hang out but many many foundations just suffocate your skin. The alternatives are mineral foundations, everyone makes it now, not just Bare Minerals from the TV ads.

You still need moisture, and you should still try to work in a sunscreen no matter what.

You don't have to use the strongest chemicals, or spend a lot of money. Once you have skin nice and clean, try witch hazel to tighten them. When you have a zit, try hydrogen peroxide or tea tree oil to clean the surface or the hole from popping it. For cleanser, many products have knockoffs that are every bit as good as the big brands.

You should do your cleansing steps in the SHOWER, this includes masks and cleansers and scrubs. Reason is so you can rinse them with a lot of clear running water. I can't tell you how many breakouts I have had on neck and chinline because I had cleanser residue on my face trying not to make a mess at the bathroom sink. You need to be able to rinse thoroughly.

The best cleansing system I ever used in my acne days was Mary Kay. I know they have changed a lot, can't speak for the new stuff but it is a very reputable product.

Keep a clean pillowcase on your bed so you aren't resting your head on a pillowcase with hair oils or styling products, or skin oils or dead skin cells. Ideally, you would change your pillowcase every night. If that is not an option at least change them every few days. You can buy extra coordinating pillowcases, either solids or complimentary fabrics, or extras that came from your sheet set. Let them pile up in the laundry and wash them separately so you can skip the fabric softener.

If you routinely rest your head on your hand or touch your face when you aren't thinking about it, try to break the habit. Many people's hands aren't as clean as they should be, even fairly hygenic people, and you are just smearing those germs all over your face.

here's what i do to get rid a zits
1. wash your face and take all make up off (it also softens the pores in the skin)
2. *only if it is a white head* clean a pin either by running it under hot water or a flame or even dip it into pro-oxide or rubbing alcohol then run the pin over the pimple until the head of it pops then with a clean tissue dab (don't wipe it'll spread the fluid around)
3.then to be sure take a little bit of tooth paste (i know it sounds weird but it works especially if you have a big thing going on the next day
4. sleep with the tooth paste on it, not only will it bring the pimple down it will also take the redness away so if the pimple has a mind of its own a stays there even if you tried everthing at least with the tooth paste it take the redness away so it is not visable
5. in the moring you wash the tooth past off your face before leaving the house.
good luck
if the tooth paste doen't work use eye drops instead

Take a warm shower or bath to soften your skin.
Wash your face and remove all makeup.
Wash your hands to prevent spreading germs and infecting the pimple.
Sterilize a needle by running it through a flame (a dirty needle will cause an infection and maybe a bigger pimple).
Gently prick the tip of the pimple with the needle.
Take a clean tissue or piece of toilet paper and wrap it around your index fingers.
Gently apply pressure to the sides of the pimple to ease out the pus. Stop when blood or clear fluid comes out.
Instead of a needle you can purchase disposable sterile lancets from your drugstore. Note that they only recommend popping those pus-filled ones. Smaller ones may be dealt with medication like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid (consult your dermatologist before applying any medication). Whiteheads go away after a few days.

I usually get zits that are just forming. Once i see it i attend to it right away. I go to the sink and rinse off all my makeup. Then wash my face with face washes (dove). THen I rinse my face off with cold water. Lastly I dab off skin with a cotton pad, not towel. My zits are gone the next day.

Good luck.

Also if you get zits a lot, try drinking lots of water and rinsing your makeup off everynight.
