Well they do have a lid for a reason!!
After you use the toilet you should put the lid down & flush it. If you don't then you risk germ particles from the toilet flying around your bathroom & settling on towels or your toothbrush... think about that next time you brush your teeth! It's more hygenic. Plus there are men who aren't particularly good at aiming & sprinkle it all over the place. Don't forget, toilets aren't just used for peeing in, and I assume most people would prefer to sit on the seat rather than the actual toilet bowl!
Also, it just looks better to not have the seat up, especially as some people do not keep their toilets particularly clean & who wants to see that as soon as they walk into the bathroom?

Ha ha!! I just hate it when my husband and son leave the toilet seat up! Where I used to work, there were several men, and just two women , all having to use the same loo, and the seat was always being left up, until one day, a little rhyme appeared on the wall behind the toilet, I think it went something like this;
When you come to take a pee,
Stop a while and think of me;
Cos when I come to use this space,
The toilets seat's not in its place,
So please, when you have done your bit,
Please replace the toilet seat,
And if you don't want me to frown,
You should also put the lid back down!!
It certainly worked anyway!! they always put the seat down after that!!

Well it is just a common courtesy. Men tend to spray all over the place so we put the seat up and then let it go. We place the seat down again that way if a woman needs to go she will not have to touch a nasty toilet seat. It is just a polite thing to do for ladies. I always do it. Also if a woman is in a rush or if she should have to get up at night and go pee or something, well if it's not down, she will fall in the toilet. While I do have to admit this is somewhat funny, it is not a very nice thing. We are basically looking out for their best interest and showing them that we do care about them and are polite.

For 2 reasons:
A man is a normal human being. He uses the toilet as any humans do.
The toilet seat is meant to be put down when used and put up after use.

Because some women are lazy and feel entitled because they are women, so they expect men to do everything for them. Women can put the seat down themselves.

That's no excuse. Why can't you check? Did you ever think to turn the light on when you go in there? I go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and I have no problem checking to see what I am doing at the toilet.

1) I live with 3 boys and I'm the only girl. Its gross when I wake up in the middle of the night to take a pee to realize that I'm sitting directly on the bowl. Don't tell me to check because I'm half asleep and its quite nasty to sit on pubes and pee spray.
2) Why women shouldn't have to put the seat up:
- Or else the seat would be up and we'd sit on pee strained bowls.
- It is a lot more sanitary to knock the seat down from the part where your thighs touch it than having to touch the bowl and the under part of the seat (which again has pee splash on it) to lift it back up.

I think this answer is very simple. Men need to both stand and sit depending on circumstance lol and women also must sit ie the seat is needed more down than up in a house with an equal male to female ratio - Its just mathematics :)

Haha - we can be demanding like that!
But in seriousness, you should always flush the toilet with the seat down, as nasty germs and stuff can get out.
So really everyone should put the lid down. Sorted.

Good point Measiam!!! Women make such a big deal out of that. It only takes a nano second to put the seat down if we discover that it is up, and vice versa for men. There are more important things in life to bi*ch about! :o)

Toilets have lids for hygiene reasons. When you flush with the lid open particles of the waste are hurled into the room.
