The Head Start program is a federally funded program that serves primarily at-risk children and their families. It provides classroom education activities that help prepare the children for their future education in all educational areas, including literacy, math, science, social skills, health, and music and movement. Parents are encouraged to be involved both as classroom volunteers and in program management. In many areas, it is an excellent program, and most of our families truly enjoy being involved in the program, and the children benefit by gaining a very solid foundation for their future education. Check this web site for more information:http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/hsb/

Good luck! I hope you decide to become involved!
