I believe it depends on the person. Some extroverts talk a lot and spend a lot of time trying to get rid of nervous energy. They don't want to stop even for a minute because then they will have to think about the one thing they dread; themselves and their' problems. On the other hand, a lot of introverted people don't need the approval of others in order to be happy. They are serene and only speak when they have something of substance to say. Introverted people are not normally less motivated than exo's. A guy who climbs a mountain to be silent and one with the world, in my opinion, is generally happier than 'party Patsy' who has to get bombed and go to night clubs with her "friends" every day.

Because of the "Blood Brain Barrier", no one can test to see what any chemical levels are in the brain without sticking a needle into the brain to find out.
In fact, I just read that the reason that people who have Parkinson's disease (a dopamine deficiency), have to be treated with L Dopa instead of dopamine; is because dopamine will not pass through the Blood Brain Barrier.
Because of this I don't see how anyone could really tell whether extroverts had higher levels of Dopamine in the brain.
How would anyone be able to do a statistically valid study to be able to tell if extroverts had higher levels?
For a study to be valid, the subjects for each control group would have to be chosen strictly at random. Yet, not everyone chosen at random would be willing to have needles stuck into the brain at regular intervals to test the dopamine level.
The fact that some would agree to the testing and some would not, would introduce variables into the study that would invalidate the study.
You have to be careful of what you read in psychology books (actually, any books), when they say that a conclusion was due to a "scientific" study.
Once I had taken college courses that informed me of what it takes for a study to be valid; and after I had read the specifics of many so called scientific studies and saw that the studies were invalid; I will never believe a conclusion of a study (especially in psychology), unless the full details of the study are given and I can see for myself if the study was valid.

Perhaps. One needs to understand, extroverts use this device to cover up the areas they feel inadequate in. Everyone creates some form of facade to reduce the obvious problems they face. As remains evident in people who are over weight.. generally are the more gregarious and extroverted people. Yet most are crying on the inside. Is a very effective facade. Enough to cause you to write this question.

i can't remember the name of the chemical but the chemistry is different. and introverts and extroverts have different pathways. introverts have better long term memory and a long pathway.
