Sometimes if a dog is missing a certain mineral in its body, they'll start to eat weird, nasty stuff such as feces, grass or other odd things. Try getting some multi viatimins for your dog and if that doesnt work, you can actually get these lil' tablets that you give to your cat. It wont harm the animals...it'll just turn the dogs off of eating or playing with the cats poop.

I wish I could give you an answer on this...But my dog has done it since he was a puppy and he is now 4 years old. No clue!

All dogs, I think, are attracted to cat litter at one point or another.

My advice, to keep the pups from getting ill, is to somehow place a barrier that only the cat can overcome. My friend has two dogs as well, on top of having a cat, set up the box in a spot where it made sense to put a baby gate in the way. The cat can climb to get to it. But the dogs? Can't.

Dogs love cat-poop snacks. Put the litter box someplace where the dog can't get to it, or scoop it out a couple of times a day. Or you could try one of those self-cleaning boxes.

Oh thank heavens I am not the only one that has this happen!! Ha ha ha. I actually asked my vet about it one time and she said that it is normal, (ichhy but whatever) and that they like to call it "kitty roca" uuuggghhh! It really drives me nuts when mine do it. I have a little fluffy dog who gets litter stuck to his wiskers and it is just so annoying! I have been trying to keep all the poop scooped as much as possible. I know it is a pain to scoop it so much, but if ya don't want them to eat it then that is the only way. I have also thought about buying one of those self scooper litter boxes, but I don't have the 80 or 90 bucks to spend on it. I have tried changing litter from the silica stuff ( crystals) to even the pine stuff, but they still like to get into it. But anyway, just know that you are not the only one to have this problem, and if you come up with a soloution. :) Good luck!

I have a closet that I don't use much (and not for clothes). I cut a cat-door hole in it & put the litter boxes in there. That was the only thing that stopped my Golden Retriever from getting into them.

He's nasty when it comes to poop. Just this weekend we went to the park & he rolled around in horse poop before I could stop him. The ride home sucked!

the poop contains undigested food and food is food to a dog. theres an additive that can be placed in the cats food to make the poop less tasty.

better yet, try a change in location for the cat box or a cat box with a lid....

Yup. This is a common problem. Cats are pure carnivores and their poop smells good to dogs, like meat. So, they want to eat it.

It is difficult to teach them not to eat it, so the easiest thing is to place the liter box where the dogs can't get it, off the ground, or behind a small gate that the cat can easily jump.

Dogs are just goofy that way. They go for the smell (don't ask).

Put a play pen, or something around the liter box. Your cat can jump in, but it will keep the dogs out.

My dog used to do that with my bunny's' litter box. When we asked the vet she said its probably because she is bored and she needs toys. She said if you already have a lot you should rotate them out every other week. That way it gives them something new to play with.

Hahah!! I have 3 dogs and 1 of them does this also. My vet says that it is believed that dogs and other animals eat poop because it contains vitamins and protein, but there is no definitely answer. I think they do it just because you don't want them too!!
